I definitely want to leave this company but not empty handed. Should I try to negotiate my now defunct 40 hour job for a severance package ?

they aint going to let you quit and collect. they are going to make work so miserable that people quit and bring in part timers
It's a good point. You got some people that want out and some that want to stay. Give the people a chance to sort that out.
Ask them you want 3 weeks for every year worked and a year of benefits for the transition. This should be offered to all employees like 4 years ago! ! They keep taking away taking away and no one makes a stand. If they say no go to their boss,head of Hr etc. Tell them on the money they'll save and they will achieve their ultimate goal! You off of their payroll. If this post was accurate they would have offered you 2 weeks for every year,so how true us your post?
Yeah that’s not a thing. Even if you have a store 10 miles from you that shut down you can’t say Let one of them have your job and you take the severance.
You can try but the answer usually is no.
