Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

Anyone know how they are picking who is getting laid off?

I know that my GM is getting let go but I’m trying to figure out how they are picking who has to leave? Do we know if it’s based on pay? Or if it’s based on anything at all?

Yup I got hit. Seems to be geographically for indirect and a algorithm was used. Makes no sense. And they cap severance at 35 weeks. I had all great ratings they lost a lot of great people and maintained a lot of people who just didn’t do their job but based on where they live maintained a job. So much for loyalty.

It’s based on a lot of things but mainly your talent ratings. This is something that isn’t talked about much. Not your end of year ratings (leading, performing, or developing). These are basically saying how far your leader and Their leaders believe you contribute to your current role and how far they believe your potential is. High Potential or “High-Po” is the highest rating and low potential is lowest. You ask your leader or HR and I am willing to bet my left nut they will come up with some bogus response as to why they can’t tell you what your rating is.

The geography for our INDIRECT area made no sense based on the layoffs. It seems the people who were laid off were the highest compensated. We were left with 2 large entire cities with no one living in that area to support it. Back to 5 to 6 hours on the road a day to cover that territory once we go back to visiting stores. Buy hey be happy you have a job, right?! Lol What a waste. Lots of knowledgeable people that actually know how to get sh– done.

I can only speak for IAMs affected however it appears to be geographic. My team as an example, Account managers furthest north and south were kept, 1 in the middle also survived I was in a weird “ in between” territory that is easily overlapped by the southern most territory. Based on geography, I would’ve drawn the lines exactly as it shook out, letting go of myself and one other account manager on the west side of town. Once I learn to they kept it made perfect sense, and I can tell you, it’s not performance or pay-based, I make less than the southernmost district and outperform both the north and south District from a volume and kpi perspective
