Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Management through fear is the default now

Looks like the days when Allstate used to encourage employees and provide incentives to do better are long gone. We are now stuck with managers who only know how to manage through fear and intimidation. And while this might work short term, employees are getting demotivated and less productive, not to mention looking for a way out. Our attrition is bad as it is, look for it to get even worse if this doesn't change - and I doubt it will.

Manage by intimidation has been Allstate’s motto since the 70’s. Over the years they have “tried” to make things appear - like caring about the employee 🙄🙄. Never have and never will. They Make the ridiculous goals for employees knowing full well they can’t be reached. There is no recognition because “this is a budget year, tighter than last year” which is something they say EVERY YEAR!!

We in management have our marching orders from above with very little ability to utilize our management skills to make our teams and departments better. It is so structured that we really don't manage but are scripted to act as such. That being said many of my fellow managers don't have any management skills and background and are just meant to babysit and handle clock management and make sure no one is threatening, mistreating, or molesting their co-workers. We as management gave very little input in improvement of processes and practices however those above sure do like to point the fingers at us when things don't go swimmingly to use us as scapegoats.

They don’t care about us anymore . They just want claims settled regardless of how many hours we put in and the workload . If it was manageable it’s be great , but working 11-12 hour days is crazy plus weekends .

We have all heard: "Happy wife, happy life." For many of us, truer words have never been spoken. At Ailstate, the mantra has become: "Create a meeting and give them a beating." I'm sorry, but no one thrives in that environment. I'd rather be led with a carrot than a stick. Being in "good hands" is not even light years close to what it used to be. So disheartening and sad. "Thanks Tom."

They know they don't need a carrot. They will be welding the stick until all our jobs "transform" to India.

Better get used to it.
