Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Pandemic Market Changes

Tech stocks on a huge upswing. Wells wasted years hiding from it. Maybe it wont be too late if they start moving with a sense of urgency. Never hide from the future, it wins every time. Be careful, old things will fail and old ways of doing things. Companies that are not tech companies will fail in next few years.

Buffet just dumped a bunch of money in tech.

OMG? Warren Buffet bought some tech stocks! I'm shocked!

Until about four years ago, things appeared to be running well, but the last few years, after the crimes and before the pandemic, the lack of good management became exposed.

The place is falling apart, and there is no one really working to fix things, and internally our tech is going backwards.

I'm talking about mid management, the folks overseeing the folks doing the actual work. The C level clownclub is another topic.

And really, @zgt+18x6lknK, you're a Software engineer, with a capital "S"? Do you work here? If so, why are you saying "they" instead of "us".

DO yoU CoDe like thAt Or are yOu a PR flack?

That is the other issue, they need not to spend any more money on these offices, waste of money.
Instead they need to look for another C Suite Exec that runs Remote Worker Operations. In fact, I am available for this role if one comes available here, I saw several of these new roles on linkedin being advertised.

The world has made a big change, and these old ways need to stop.

Even with this pandemic, right now we have a vaccine for it. They did say if it ever mutates far enough it may be incurable at some point. Let's hope people do the right thing, but I am not willing to risk my health and count on all these people making the right choices so I will be a remote worker only.

@zgt

I am a Software Engineer at Wells too. The things you mention are nice, like moving deck chairs around on the Titanic nice. You're impressed because they spent millions on glossy new office space in Charlotte how does that fix our inability to make simplest changes because of our overly bureaucratized manual structure?

Tech managers at Wells don't even manage tech they are bureaucratic administrators.

talk is cheap, results matter! Where are the results?

A few years there will be a new trend, this is how tech moves, it doesnt wait decades, it moves fast. They need to move with urgency.

@1udi+18x6lknK you are actually not going to see results until a few more years. Only time will tell.

@1qef+18x6lknK a lot of this information is available under tech in teamworks. I used to work in Wells 3 in uptown but got moved to the new cooperate tech office. As someone who works closely in development, I can feel the energy change. This summer there were 500+ interns in all LOB, a few in my group. Changes are happening, but as any big company it takes time.

I appreciate the info from Post ID: @zgt+18x6lknK. Thank you for taking the time to contribute that info. And it’s interesting.

I wish we heard updates like that from management. I think employees are interested in hearing more about what the new C-Suite is working on. Charlie could get more buy-in if he talked about what’s going on at the company. Get employees engaged and maybe excited for the future.

This is the start of an improvement but this company is monolithic. Not sure how interns will help, we need people who can move the needle forward at a faster rate. This is not a walk its a sprint due to how far the company is behind the rest of the world. I would think a better option is to bring in consultants from a one of the Big Four to speed up rate of return. Even today management doesn't listen when really a sense of urgency is required nor do they understand.
Companies that were ready are making 300%, 400% + returns and it will continue due to business structures have to transition fast.

The other issue is all these heavy processes, only have gotten worse and worse over time. No improvements in this area at all. Also positions that create bottle necks for driving forward need to be reviewed if they really offer value towards the end goal or if they offer value at all.

This is probably why Buffet left and took all his money and dumped it in tech.

Wells Fargo is moving away from doing things the old way. Investments is up in tech. they just built a state of the art technology office in uptown Charlotte. They are also hiring Software Engineers/Technology Managers from FAANG and other established business with strong technology. They are letting go people who's LOB won't move towards/support tech.

Wells Fargo Technology Interns also is spearheading the movement. I have seen interns from Top universities coming here because they are getting the top dollar. Their hourly rates are very eye opening (their hourly rate is higher than the national average)
