I can give a pass to a CEO who is already leading a company that has fallen on hard times, and then has to cut jobs. But a man who demands $36,000,000 specifically to take the job of potentially ruining the lives of 65,000 families? I don’t understand what kind of person can do that and then sleep at night. Is he proud of himself? I would rather lay next to my kind and thoughtful husband at the end of the day in our middle-class loving home, than a man like Charlie in a penthouse.
Sure, there are plenty of self-serving people who are only too happy to profit off the backs of others. Common decency seems to be a fading trait. But that doesn’t make it ok. Am I perfect? No, but my failings as a human being usually occur in the moment when emotions are involved. I don’t make or accept plans to purposely harm people in order to make more money. And neither would anyone I know and respect.
Now that Charlie has passed over this moral line, what’s next? What would he NOT be willing to do for more money? How much does he need?
