Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Do all managers in all LOBs need 7 direct reports?

My manager in CIB has only 5 direct reports and I know another CIB manager with only 3 direct reports. They each manage a team of relationship managers that cover a specific geography, product type or function. I wonder if the requirement for 7 directs doesn’t apply to certain groups. Anyone know?

In our area it is 20:1 now after they got rid of all the managers. Yeah, that’s effective management. id–tic thinking someone can manage that many effectively...not that they really care.

CEO is all numbers. At his level, with huge numbers, He correctly assumes that bad displacements and good displacements will, at the worst, net out and he is correct. Don’t expect serious thought and certainly don’t expect empathy.

Exceptions are possible, but as others have stated that's likely a temporary situation. If I had less than 7 I'd see the writing on the wall even if I got an exception.

I can say my group in ca is received exception and was confirmed 3-1 ratio.

it is company wide and there is no variation in requirement by area or function.

Different groups are on different timelines.

There is an exception process, so not everyone in the company will have to get to 7:1 - but those exceptions have to be requested formally with a rationale that is very rigorous, and approved at OC level... and overall, percent of exceptions has a cap/limit for OC level (I.e. single digits percent of managers that are granted exceptions).

So if it hasn't happened yet, either it will, or there will be an exception granted.

If your bonus is reduced and you are working hard for your team, what can you do? Your Mgr is in charge. I would love to understand why Mgrs that do next to nothing continue to get a bonus even when their Mgmt knows. Avoidance .

They will leave on their own once they see their c-appy bonus in February. 150k+ no raise in CIB means bad things for those in that LOB.
