Yes, the GAL is updated before it shows on Teamworks
there are several versions of zz:
zz.zz.zz.zz.zz
zz.zz.zz.zz
zz.zz.zz
zz.zz.zy
zz.zz
zz.zy

Those are Restricted ids. They are accounts with elevated permissions used to access servers and such. For instance you will see person Jane Smith and then r.Jane Smith. Same person with two accounts u123456 and ru123456.

- zz means the domain id has been disabled the person will still show in teamworks for 30 days so they can look for a new position after the first 30 they will be taken out of teamworks but paid for 30 more. Then the package kicks in from how I understand it.

You can see the list of ZZ's by opening Outlook, clicking on "New Email", then on "To". Then click on the little blue "Advanced Find" and type in "zz." (without the quotes) in the Display Name box.
That will bring up a huge list of everyone that's been zz'd.
You can also refine the list by entering the first few characters of a persons title in the "Title" box (under Advanced Find). Most recently the list has been heavy with various "Manager" titles.
You'll be amazed at how many people are in there. Presumably they drop out entirely upon reaching 60 days.
zy tends to indicate someone is on leave of absence.

I found out myself about ZZ as 2 contacts were zzed.
I'm in IT, when a user in IT is laid off, their access is cut during the call with their mgr. All it EU's are getting 60 days non work pay. In other words, you are zzed so you can't send emails, etc.. This happened to many mgrs on Thursday in IT.
Yes. They will remain in TW since they are still technically an employee. The zz. Is indicated because they have no LAN access.
Skype / Outlook does seem to be faster with the .zz compared to scrubbing from Teamworks
