Does anyone know if there is any future for the QA analysts? Most of the QA transition under Dev Teams for now. But it doesn’t look like QA will survive for long as the Company is shifting away from QA and will rely more on Dev Unit Testing/Automation.

The ultimate objective is to have engineers complete all work in a sprint/assigned. If you are not an engineer, in time you will not be here.
This would tell me to reskill and do it quickly with constant communication to your manager and periodic communication to their manager. Utilize Pluralsight and follow the path assigned. Obtain knowledge in automation and utilize that knowledge.
Listen closely to what Saul has stated. He has said that in time QA/testers will not be here. He has said this a few times on his AMA’s.
Of course obtaining this skill set is not a guarantee of employment but remember whatever you obtain can be taken wherever you go. Have the company foot the bill for your education.
With full unit test coverage by the devs combined with sprints, there should only need to be a couple QA people per major app. Or one really good one.

Do you really work at WF? Test plans are written by QA Test Leads or Test Coordinators. Developers are too busy with coding to have time to write test plans needed to test their own code.
If Test Plans are written by developers in your group, then your entire group is part of the real problem. Sorry to say.

That statement above is hilarious.. I’ve worked with well Over 100 developers the last 10+ years at wells and never seen a developer write a test plan... that’s always done by the test lead. They can hardly write a clear design doc !!

I agree that if a particular QA analyst can be upskilled to write automated test scripts they should have a job. Otherwise it generally is a role which is no longer needed.
Been in the testing world for 10 plus years and anyone who been here knows there is next to 0% chance the exiting development team can do their own testing . Even my new dev manager I was moved to two weeks ago said he needs me as his very experienced group of developers don’t know how to test and don it have the people skills or understand of the needs of the business or customers . They just want an BRD, FSD or a user story to work from...
The business is freaking out knowing the issues that are to come with these changes

You can’t automate everything... and developers should not be testing their own code. That’s why those QA analysts are there.
