Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

More layoffs Today

IT especially hit hard all around - no announcements, no notices, just a meeting scheduled suddenly and out.

Mabe it wasn't before Christmas, but it was right before Chanukah!

Well they weren’t wrong. This week wasn’t RIGHT before Christmas just before. But in the end it makes no difference. Whomever gets laid off is paid for 60 additional days plus a minimum of 8 additional weeks. This hardly means little Timmy won’t get his two front teeth for Christmas.

I remember in one of Saul's video saying they wouldn't lay folks off right before Christmas guess that didn't hold true.

@1ffc - funny thing is, my boss told me I need to badge in so many days a month. What happens if I don't? I'm not guaranteed a desk space. Really? If so, I just won't badge in and stay home.

It’s like that guy with a red stapler from the Office Movie. They moved his cube to the basement and forgot that he exists. Apparently he was fired but was still getting paid.

They haven't got everyone's location figured out yet. I live literally 1,000 miles from where my location is listed. Been here for years.

Not hiding anything, either. My manager and teammates know where I work. I think the convoluted systems either can't be updated, or there is so much red tape getting them updated that nobody bothers.

I'll be the first one to admit that my job is one of those "nonsense" jobs. For the life of me I just don't know why they don't get rid of me, or my entire team for that matter. I'm happy to be getting a nice paycheck for as long as this lasts, but just the same I can't see how much longer it can go on. Its like the company forgot we exist at all.

Were it not for the pandemic they would have followed through with the location strategy where the only options were to relocate to a hub or take a package. It's hardly anyones fault that nothing happened. I would have happily taken a package rather than move. It is what it is for now.

"Saul's group during the past 2 months has pretty much been riding high. "

That is by design. It has taken untold months to untangle what, exactly, everyone in Saul's org is working on and if they are working on actual work or just nonsense.

People are spread out all over the place and no one really had a good understanding of that either. I mean, we have people - including some of our "leadership" many of whom are multi decade employees - here who are assigned to an actual physical office location with the associated MAC. But, guess what? They are full time telecommuter/Field Reps in a completely different state. I can't imagine how long that took to unpack but am sure it involved cross referencing official HR data (home address) with whatever address information was in Teamworks for someones location. Pure b.s.... Teamworks says you work out of a building in Charlotte but you live several states to the West. Nice scam.

Saul's group during the past 2 months has pretty much been riding high. What I mean is that barely anyone has been laid off. There are what, close to 26k in IT, so when you mean hit hard, that to me would mean around 1k, but all I'm hearing on this board is one or two or three. Whoooopie!

"I thought non branch layoffs are only done every other Tuesday. Is Thursday now one of the days as well?"

I don't think leadership ever announced that it'd be Tuesdays only. The cadence was adopted for practical reasons early on, and it sort of leaked out. Plus we all started to see the pattern for ourselves.

Now that severance packages are eSigned, rather than Fed-Exed back and forth, the administrative burden is less for HR. So, they can pick up the pace of layoffs.

Not to mention, there's likely pressure for Charlie to speed up this process.

Another IT manager from a service delivery team is gone. That's along with one senior IT manager I'm aware of, I previously posted about her, an SVP.

While small compared to other teams, we lost 3 out 16 Tech Ops from our IT team: AZ, WA, and SD.

Hey @kik+18lQKUaA, I don't disagree that there are issues here.

But I make a comment about you having free time during work hours and you reply with a super extra long post.

You are making my case for me. You are a troll with nothing better to do.

I set my own hours and really don't care about this job, but you seem to, yet you have so much free time during working hours.

That may be cause for concern.

Good luck, wash your hands, and stay safe.

"Gotta' love the folks who come here cheering for layoffs."

Because I am willing and able to leave emotion and self-preservation aside to talk facts and to sympathize with Wells as a company who has to answer to its shareholders.

The fact is Wells has way too many people due to multiple years upon years of piss poor management and previous merger bloat. Because of our bloated size, we are not competitive with the other big banks. We are at the bottom and lack agility in execution.

I am also new (under 3 years) here and am continually baffled by the amount of made up nonsense work that goes on for the sake of looking busy and important.

Also baffling are the number of poor, toxic managers here who are more interested in protecting themselves and their lack of relevance at the expense of ruining the career's of some of their direct reports who see through the nonsense.

so many people around here who do nothing more than look at other groups seeking out and making problems out of absolutely nothing. Why? To make themselves look like they are "reducing risk" and "protecting" the bank.

"tech secretaries"

Ah yes... the people working for our infosec "leaders" doing nothing more than scheduling meetings and putting together the ppt for their "leader"... You know, all stuff the "leader" should be doing themselves.

"I wonder if the OCC knows they're getting rid of risk people."

Who cares? You don't multiple several people who are all doing the same thing. at least in infosec we have lots of folks doing nothing more than useless busywork designed to make themselves look important.

plenty of room for cutting around here.

Well, a certain toxic, lifer manager in ICS, an "SVP" that had a couple of direct reports all of the sudden announced their "retirement" effective the first of the year. perhaps they saw the writing on the wall.. good riddance.

I know the cuts have been deep in IT today. For those affected, my heart goes out to you and your families. On behalf of those left behind, thank you for being incredible teammates, leaders and innovators for the bank. We will mis working with you. 15 out of a group of 30 let go (3 managers, geared towards more senior, not based on race). End of day today is last day. IT with team all over US. Seems those in Charlotte were kept, proportionally.

This needed to happen as we are bloated, but was expected early next year. All the best to those who remain - there will be a lot of support required from you guys.
