Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

DE&I

Let me preface by saying I truly believe in diversity and inclusion. With that said, I think we've done a good job overall with some areas needing more representative statistics. To me the issues are really at the senior level and yet "leadership" continues to cram it down our throats as if we fail. He's the one with very little demonstrable success with D&I. My team is majority diverse. Anyone else tired of it being crammed into our faces and down our throats?

I think it is laughable, if we had truly hired the most qualified maybe we wouldn’t be 4 going on 5 years under an asset cap, 7billion plus in fines/settlements and counting, 20 years technologically behind. Before we critique Black/African American, Latin, Asian/Pacific Islander and Native people for wanting equal access to opportunity perhaps we can consider why we don’t see the revolving door of white male incompetence as a problem...and yet they seem to maintain the most seats at the top...no one is discounting anyone’s challenges, but come on...you gotta let some others try - we might just have a shot at digging ourselves out of this gigantic hole if we diversified a bit...

I can see why you would have that perspective regarding DE&I, but that’s only because our Executive leadership doesn’t share all the details about all of the racial disparity in pay, hiring and bonus payout practices happening in the organization. It’s unfortunate because it places the burden on the underrepresented to explain, advocate and defend the need when it is known the disparities are so significant it should be criminal.

Love how that communication is purely focused on African Americans. Feel bad for the substantially less included other minorities

D&I is so irrelevant in the current climate and strategic direction of moving most jobs to India. D&I is a US employment law and catchphrase. When jobs move to India, Wells Fargo (or any other corporation) is not required to have D&I, unless it is a requirement in that country. Think about it....how many white, or black, or Hispanics are working at Wells in India. India is the least diverse country! It is all a moot point and a distraction from layoffs.

"We have said that we want to be judged by what we do and the outcomes - not our words" - says the guy who "rebrands" the name of the D&I efforts in the company.

Great strides made, Chainsaw! I suspect he just figured out the difference between "equity" and "equality" so feels the need to educate the rest of us. Paaahhh-leeese!

If guaranteed outcomes is the goal, then we are doomed... Everyone deserves the opportunity, but not the position based on race/gender. The greatest civil rights leader in history, Martin Luther King, was not in favor of the former, but rather the latter. MLK was very clear about being a good citizen and peaceful in protest.

@iwv+18itYxIo - great point, those of us who are white are all painted with a very broad brush... Not every white dude had a privileged upbringing or even middle class. Also, i would love to see the number of minority applicants per job ... maybe the interest in Tech isn't there (for example), its not
a career path for everyone. Take it one step further and figure out why a minority rules IT here...We all know who that is.

Give me a break with this DE&I c-ap. I am white, grew up in a broken, disadvantaged home. Could not participate in school activities because I had to work in fast food and grocery to put gas in my car and pay my insurance. I left for the military, got out, worked two jobs to gain experience and kept on at it teaching myself along the way, progressing into roles of more seniority. I now have two degrees that I paid for via the military and finished while working full time.

If they want more blacks/hispanics/whatever in senior leadership roles then perhaps the people who are these minority groups need to be as competitive as the next person and apply for the roles.

Diversity for the sake of diversity is a bunch of b.s. and punishes people who have actually had to work for everything their entire lives.

Why try to make it more caring with DE&I instead of D&I when we went from Team Members to faceless numbers now know as Employees? The rhetoric is so dumb. Is this what the leaders do all day? (Atta-boy, great idea!! No you’re great! No, you are! No you!!!!!!). Let’s get someone else to type a message to everyone about our great idea. Everyone loves us!!!!! (Eye roll)

I think they’re trying to redeem the company bc of the racist comment that Charlie said about black people. As a black person I am still deeply offended. There is not an apology for it. It doesn’t change that he thinks smart and capable black people are hard to find. He sees us as “less than.” His approach at an apology is as deeply insulting to think it makes it ok. He has been privileged all of his life, apparently looking down on us brown and black folks.

It is endlessly repeated weekly if not daily — > we get it that the company wants to appear 'woke' almost to the point where this is the single most important goal. How about we just hire the best candidate and not have to cheer and boast about color/gender? We have many women in positions of power for example, does the company need to drill us on feeling guilty about something that does not exist? Evolving into a huge waste of time and resources.

The messages of D&I are not bothersome. It IS bothersome that those who promote an inclusive environment with D&I at the center of it just happen to be the same people who make it a bad environment for nearly everyone else.
