Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Allstate Day of Change protest planned

The Allstate Employees For Change committee has organized and scheduled a "Day of Change" protest during Monday January 25th 2021. There are hundreds of fellow Allstaters from multiple departments ranging from front line to division leaders already committed to participating. From 10am to 3pm on Monday January 25th you are asked to log out of all systems and cease work functions to protest the unacceptable work conditions, unwarranted layoffs that affected thousands of our brothers and sisters in 2020, and the impossible work metrics that are designed to keep us from succeeding and receiving performance bonuses, raises, and promotions. We must stand up for our rights and treatments. They must realize that without us they have nothing. Exercise you right of expression on Monday January 25th. We must have and push for change! Thank You!

The smartest way to go about this is to take a sick day. Request PTO or take a PTON if you can't request a regular PTO day because it's full. They can't prove if you were sick or not. Everything is Telehealth now anyway - it's easy enough to get a doctor's note if they give you a hard time. Not even the doctor can prove you weren't sick over the phone. It's the start of the new year and everyone's got the PTO days so now is the best time to do this.

They can't fire everyone, they'd go under in the time it took to rehire and train that many replacements. The person who said that the more people participate the safer this is, is right.

There's more than 40k employees. This is not going to work like that.

If everyone does it what are they going to do? Fire ALL of us?? We’re not as replaceable as they think. It takes weeks/months to get someone to the proficiency they need to be at to actually add any value. They’d be super f—ed if they entertained firing everyone. That’s the strength in numbers. The more people who participate the safer it’ll be.

How can we become part of the employees for change committee? They are all out numbered by us, so we always have the upper hand. Brilliant idea! I will make sure Ohio, Pennsylvania and Arizona offices participate as well.

Also, to the people saying that they can’t afford to lose their jobs, none of us can, and if we all participate, they can’t do sh– to us.

You guys do realize that if you do this, you are just hurting your “brothers and sisters”, right? Imagine how many people don’t know about this, or can’t afford the risk of losing their job, and they will be stuck there on 1/25 picking up the slack and making their day hell.

I fully agree with everything that is being said. This company is awful to work for at the moment, and the stress they put on us for the impossible metrics is not fair. But this is not going to make a difference. They knew how everyone was feeling after the lay offs and they don’t care.

The best way to make a statement is all the people who don’t want to be there, find a new job and quit. When they see the turnover rate increase, they may actually look into changes.

Good luck to all who participate.

The RESISTANCE must rise up!! It shall truly be a heroic, historic day, comparable to the fall of the Berlin Wall or the end of apartheid!! We must be strong to overcome the oligarchy known as the “board of directors”. RISE UP, brothers, sisters, they, them (whatever pronoun you prefer) for the Day or reckoning is upon US! Wasting 5 hours on a Monday shall go down in history as the day, WE THE PEOPLE, boldly stood in the face of tyranny and said ENOUGH! Then we will saunter back to our home office in the spare room, log back in, and finish our work for the day

The truly comical element to all of this is trying to “grow” our customer base and gain market share while providing dog sh– customer service because we can’t even provide an estimate in a timely manner because we let too many people go. 3-4 weeks for an estimate is garbage and probably a compliance issue too.

But we care about customers, yeah. Okay.

The customer experience can be no greater than the employee experience.

For once they have that right. It’s trash for both.

Strength is in numbers. If they see how fed up we all are and that we aren’t going to accept this treatment anymore we have an opportunity to drive some actual change. The way this company is mistreating its employees is downright sickening. I have never felt so unappreciated as I do now. They have gotten away with this far too long.

Wow. You can sure tell who the Allstate bootlickers, panty sniffers, and blue kool-aid drinkers are. Continue to accept getting abused and mistreated. Many of us are taking a stand and it all starts 1/25. We are participating here in Virginia center. We are strong. Home office us weak. You trolls keep being cowards. We WILL NOT be deterred!

Let's go! Don't blame the machine. Blame the machine operator that doesn't correctly maintain the machine. This is needed on January 25 just to make a small statement. You have a lot of us in CCC already committed. It will be a crazy day and I feel just the start of things to come. Truly "exciting times"!

This committee should get a secret vote going so we can get a union in here. It’s the only way to exercise rights for those that are in these jobs that don’t have rights. This post is a cry for help. Now that the Dems are taking control of the government and our country is “transformatively” changing, per Chuck Schumer, now is the perfect time to get a Union at Allstate. Throw their transformative growth right back at em. The Union dues would be worth it in order to negotiate Kronos and other BS they keep doing. In a pandemic. They are taking advantage of the American worker and it’s time to step up and do what we can while we still can. Before all jobs go to India and AI ! UNION !!!

I quit Allstate but I’m standing in full solidarity with everyone working for the company right now. The telecommunications unions could probably help in some way, and I’m sure an auto insurance union being formed would be good for everyone.

Wouldn't it be easier to organize a joint sick day? That way you are protected from being fired as the employer cannot prove that you are not sick and also send a message at the same time?
No risk of losing severance if you get put on the layoff list when they realize that you were a part of the national sick day.
Why risk all that severance if you don't have to.

2wfv+18PixVWg. Sure you will. I'm not instilling fear that's for sure. In fact, I'm in alignment with dealing with this ridiculous impact to our work load and mental health. If you refuse to do your job in some sort of silent protest, just be prepared for possible outcome.

I'm seeing lots of people who might be out of jobs soon. An actual organized protest would offer some legal protection. But not doing your job and publicly announcing the activity isn't smart. Good luck

You would be much better served by muting your phones, placing customers on indefinite hold, or unplugging your phones altogether. Logging off will be traced to your ID. In the age if COVID I also cant see any virtual physician call advising anyone to work if they awoke with a sore throat. That would give a written excuse for missing work, even in a remote environment. If you follow through, make sure your affairs are in order when you are dismissed.

Sometimes the only way to get attention is taking drastic action, bring attention to working conditions, excessive workload, excessive unpaid hours-overtime, working weekends, workplace intimidation, unwarranted performance management, age discrimination. This company has become abusive to employees. Yes we can leave and go elsewhere but first let's take a stand, show the corporate bully we are humans and deserve to be treated like one, show the corporate bully their lack of dignity and respect will no longer be tolerated. **** employer retaliation against those involved is illegal, keep notes, dates, names for possible legal action. I used to be proud to work at this company we have a stake in this company from all the hard work trying to make them successful I refuse to leave without a fight. YES we will leave and go elsewhere but it's time to leave a parting gift.

Like someone else mentioned, this isn’t the Industrial Age where you’re shutting down a work line. Most likely, your efforts won’t be noticed at all and you’ll spend the rest of the month trying to catch up on the work you ignored during your 5 hours lunch.

Worst case, you’re fired for insubordination. No severance, no unemployment.

If you’re comfortable with both scenarios, go for it.

As for me, imma keep my head down and do my work. You know, like I’m being paid to do.

“It’s not their company but our company”. Sorry but unless you own an adsolute massive share of Allstate stock it is their company. If that was the case you could also have a say in executive decisions like ousting the CEO, board, CFO, etc. But you don’t and neither do I are. We are employees and choose to work here. This isn’t a government or HOA, it’s a corporation and you work for it, you don’t have any say in executive decisions and neither do I. And what are 5 hours of not working going to do? Make for a lot of calls and catch up work the next day. Enjoy your extended lunch I guess. I understand your ideals and actually agree but this isn’t Libya or Sierra Leone, it’s a huge corporation and I hate to break it to you but they are all like this or worse.

Full unity and support from your Allstate Michigan agents!

I love this idea. Myself and my peers will gladly participate. Claims is on board with you! Power back to the workers and the people. This company has gone too far. It is not their company but our company that is publicly traded. We will have our voice. Without us there is no Allstate. This may be the first step to long needed labor representation and reform.

And to the home office troll trying to discourage this you disgusting people would be best served sticking to your failed Transformative Growth script. That plan will soon be history too.

As if they needed an excuse to “lay off” more people. You aren’t going to prove anything, this isn’t the strikes of yesteryear during the industrial revolution, if they don’t can you immediately for insubordination you will be at the top of the chopping block come lay-off time, or at a minimum your career will go nowhere and you will be blacklisted the rest of your time here. You are an at will employee and can leave at any time. And as much as you call this “brothers and sisters” I’m not putting my livelihood into your hands, there is incompetence in this company at all levels, I’ve seen the way some employees work and wouldn’t trust them with my lunch in the office fridge. Do want you want but if anything they want you to do this, easy to identify who to lay off next, no puzzles or word games needed, they also won’t owe you severance or unemployment.
