Stop crying

I just stumbled onto this site and am disgusted by some of the stuff I’ve read on here. Seems to me, a lot of you have had it too easy in life and don’t really understand how good Pembina is to work for. There are way worse companies with real human rights violations taking place, not hurt feelings. Ever think that people may be putting in extra time because they actually care or are passionate about their career? It may not have anything to do with getting their regular work done. Where is this “drinking culture”? Sure as hell don’t see it where I am, we are too damn busy to drink together.

I don’t know...a company that requires every employee to make a diversity and inclusion pledge on their annual goals doesn’t seem like they take discrimination lightly. In fact it’s the the exact opposite.

I remember a Stampede party at National where as the afternoon went on, one visibily intoxicated VP went around with the drink ticket "wheel" and handed tickets out like candy to staff. Shortly after, another intoxicated VP walked around with a tray full of shots. After awhile the bartenders just turned things into an open bar. It was a total mess but the summer students sure loved it. And if you hung around long enough you got to close things down with Mick, and get invited back to his house for more booze. That is true.

My concern with the social club lunches was that while we are all adults, you would see people in health and safety positions, engineers, procurement, etc. go back to their desks after consuming alcohol. The reality is, not everyone can handle booze like the next person..... but it was all celebrated because "we're different at Pembina". It is completely irresponsible, and again, is a strange thing to observe coming from a major producer that was dry. I was even asked as I left one lunch, if I wanted a beer for the road...

The drinking culture for example is at the Social Club lunch every month. Employees were allowed to drink free alcohol, as much as they want, during working hours. Let's be sincere, do you believe that most of the employees were working after drinking alcohol at the Social Club lunch.

At Pembina parties, employees are given free tickets for more alcohol. Those are only some examples to mention about the drinking culture. Don't forget about the Board of directors meeting with wine.

What the shareholders would think if they know that employees at Pembina are in parties and in a middle of a drinking culture, instead of working?

When I was laid off in April I provided my severance package to a lawyer for review. Her first comment was: "Oh, Pembina.... We've gotten a few calls this week from Pembina people who were laid off". She mentioned that Pembina was lowballing and grinding long term senior employees for "basically peanuts". There is no defending this company anymore. The jig is up. I enjoy reading this site. Please keep posting everyone!

I am a current employee of the company and this site is certainly an online autopsy of the firm! Some interesting and heartbreaking information to read. None of which is surprising. To throw more gas on the fire, when I began my career at Pembina 8 years ago, there was a young individual on a team we interacted with who was obviously struggling with severe mental health issues (taboo topic at Pembina). Her manager and team were all aware of her struggles and instead of compassion and assistance, the manager deliberately overloaded her with more work and additional trips to the field. We later found out that was to get her to quit. Which she did. HR was also involved and cruely twisted the corporate dagger. After she resigned, her former team said how she would never work again in our industry and mocked her. I found out this after she left. Thankfully she sought help and is working again for a bigger midstream company. I still work with many people here who believe they are untouchable. It is like they are all on d–gs thinking Pembina is the be all and end all. There was a post somewhere here that called Pembina a cult and after thinking about it, its totally true, by the way and all these posts are circulated internally. Anyone defending the company here is a dumb shill.

If you even work for the company, don't come back here and cry when they eventually kick your butt to the curb with an insulting severance package, 1.5 weeks of benefit coverage, and act as they are doing you a favor. The unethical stuff is true. Deal with the fact Pembina isn't who they say they are. The company had the audacity to give us 1.5 weeks of benefits post layoff and told us to "use up everything when you can!".. in the middle of a global pandemic. Hey genius, nothing is open. They screwed up sending personal items home (missing item), they screwed up the paperwork for directing severance funds to our RRSP (sending out a revised schedule and then making us go to our bank to obtain an actual signed letter from the with account information... during a global pandemic). It then took them close to a month to pay out the funds. Truthfully, you sound like someone who has had it "so easy in life". Put the proverbial kool-aid down, id–t.

This is certainly an interesting site! Full of emotions! Glad it is providing many people a forum to share their thoughts and experiences! I would like to share mine!
Personally, I am grateful to Pembina because they hired my son, a person with significant communication disabilities. He had the pleasure of full time work for almost 3 years! Pembina accepted the challenge of creating inclusion for him in a very competitive workforce. I know this was a difficult task because not all of Pembina’s employee culture was open, willing, and ready to accept employees of his kind into the workplace. But many were! They worked to create a system for achieving success in his duties and most important of all…. helped to create a sense of belonging for him at Pembina.
I believe that Pembina realized that they have much work to do in their “system world” to make it more equitable for persons with disabilities to navigate in order to fulfil their employee accountability. Much work will be needed for the future. This is very important work and speaks to the humanity in us all. I hope Pembina continues on this journey.
I believe a company’s greatest asset is its employees and together they drive the culture of the company. We continuously create the culture that we work in everyday bit by bit. We are all humans first and the pursuit of wealth and power without humanity will lead to disaster. To the present employees : Step by step, you can be pioneer in diversifying the workforce to include everyone. May you have the courage to respectfully share your thoughts and not resort to speaking negatively behind a person’s back.

I agree with the overtime part as it is a choice, but you cannot talk about human rights violation as there is open discrimination and racism in the company. There are people who have been overlooked for promotion and been discriminated against as the manager feels that the race they belong to are lazy. I have been in such meetings and I cannot imagine why people in leadership positions are thinking that way. There was a 2 hour debate whether to promote a field guy to a supervisor not because he/she deserve it, but because they were black. how is that not a violation
