Palm Beach Gardens store a disgrace

So here is one of South Florida's premier shopping malls in a booming county with tons of money and all the faces of business, finance, music and entertainment you'd want as neighbors and yet the Macys store at the Gardens mall is a disgrace to the good name of what retail B&M stores used to be.

The store is dirty, carpets filthy and badly stained, dressing rooms smell, NO depth of product or assortment...my gawd...the home store looks worse than a dollar store. The staff? They look overwhelmed, defeated certainly not well managed, motivated or coached. The few seen were standing, holding onto, their wrap desks as islands of safety.

Management? Unseen. Though I did see what appeared to be a self officious female with a clipboard apparently instructing a downtrodden associate on what she wanted. Did this "manager" look at me and my spouse, ask us how we were, did we need assistance, anything of that sort? LOLOLOLOLOLOL..... Her appearance slovenly but her attitude officious and self important. A "manager" who would have never lasted working for any of my teams.

Here's the thing. I do understand closing under performing locations. I do not understand allowing a store location such as this one to just rot away with neglect and obvious indifference of management (store and corp.). As a former manager (store and regional) with over four decades of service to the business and family that is retail, I am appalled and shamed at what has happened to Macys and many other retailers who are still grasping for straws as they slide under the water never to be seen nor heard from again.

There are still viable stores and locations that deserve better. That is if anyone running them or the company really cares?

To the last poster, you hit it dead on. I have 30 years of service and the schedule and the expectations and workload are totally going to break me but I suspect that’s the plan. Severance would be welcomed at this point. I never thought a year ago that I would feel this way. My plan was to go a few more years till retirement. I loved my job but now I truly feel stressed beyond my limits.

Working at macys is horrible.you don't get treated right and are k–ling their employees with morning, noon, and night shifts because they let everyone go in june.they should give severance packages to to people that have been there for many years.volentary buy outs.instead they kept a few of us to torture us til we quit without a package.

My store is not closing, and I feel the pain for people who will be losing their jobs. All I can say is that the Associates and Managers in my store put up one helluva fight to bring off Christmas this year. And, with the "Deal of the Day" crowds ordering online, we kept the merchandise in the store looking attractive and money coming into the till. We kept our dignity while dealing with vulture-customers, who were eager to find out if we would be liquidating (bargains!!!) and others who acted as though we were germ-ridden Super-Spreaders. In the future, I hope these people will learn to shop online and save their complaints for UPS and USPS.

Lady you are a disgrace
Why are you on here complaining about things out of ANY in store workers control
This is a LAY OFF BOARD discussing jobs loses/rumors etc...
Not an entitlement message board for you to talk about dirty carpets and overwhelmed employees
YOU HAVE NO IDEA what we are going through, you were in retail IN THE GOOD OLE DAYS I dont care about your 40 years in the business. ITS THE PAST!
Store managers are dropping like flys...why dont you come and join us, id love to see how engaged and "lovely" your team would be in a. middle of a pandemic worried if your store is going to shut down and how your going to feed your family and pay your bills. Looking at tired old merchandise on messy racks OR looking at bare walls and empty fixtures.
ITS DEPRESSING

Then add more stress with covid and the state of the world election mess.

I am an executive and I ignore people like you ALL DAY LONG because you act like your a know it all and when I do try to help your type you make snide comments and push me over an edge wanting me to blow up on you so you can get something for free or be a KAREN and complain to somebody higher up than me, who doesn't care either LOL

Macy’s got rid of the people who cared to hire in others for less money. That was a great decision and clearly has put the company on the road to recovery, right?

LOL...perhaps some of you should re-read my post...I hardly blame the workers. In fact quite the opposite, if you'd bother to read with eyes open and mind engaged.

I provide my positions to indicate to you I've been there, seen it, heard it, suffered thru it and if I may say so, I know my teams would and have, rose above it, to do the best by them, with them, and for my communities.

I get the pain. I don't get some of the disdain? Look, retail had been dying a slow death since the late 1960's. Yes that long ago. There was a brief renaissance period in the late 70's and early 80's until Campeau started the final fall of the chain dominos, of which Macys itself, later on, was every part a player too.

No I am not a snowbird. Though retired and living modestly in Fla.. Palm Beach County was once populated, not terribly long ago, under 700k people, now with near 1.75 million in what is also the wealthiest county in the state. So to have the Gardens Mall Macys fall so far says everything, read this carefully: about the store, regional and corp. managent.

Now stay safe, be well, and support your local retailers and restaurants...it all matters and so do you.

It would appear that from the timing of this post, you are a winter-visitor or a 2nd home owner who has a lot more of everything than the folks still hanging on to a dead-end job at Macy's.

You claim that you are a retail veteran of 40 years, yet to blame the workers (who barely make enough to even buy food) for the disheveled appearance of the store in PBG, FL. I very much want to believe you, but anyone who has worked retail (especially IN the stores and not corporate) would understand that if corporate management isn't giving them a direction (or the budget) to repair or replace things, they have no other choice but to ignore the mess in which they are working in.

I would imagine that the part time retail clerk/salesperson/manager were grasping onto their check-out counters is because they are over-worked, underpaid and overwhelmed. And who wouldn't be? The workers you so clearly despised and disrespected were most likely avoiding 'you' because they are smart enough to recognize a well to do out of towner who thinks that they must bow down to your 'better-than-you' attitude. It's not the retail workers fault that the CEO and ilk thought having 400 stores was a great idea. Retail has been on the downturn for over 3 decades. It's unnecessary to have a location on every corner (Hello Walgreens) only to close it down a few years later, which in turn uproots many people's lives.

As a retail vet, I would have expected better from you. Shame on you. The 'townies' you look down upon don't like you much either.

It's a shame that the workers pay the ultimate price for the many years of neglect. The employees aren't responsible for new fixtures, clean carpets, better merchandise, etc. The big wigs up top are!
