Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

The downward spiral

I'm sure blowes contributed to a massive percentage of the spread of covid today for black viral spread friday. No doubt. On top of the anti-employee agenda they have. All the manager threats on a daily basis, lack of actual employees......(but there is no shortage of non-productive management) thats for sure. The ratio of manager to employee is ridiculous. PR spotlight of hiring people my arse. What for a 4 hour shift for one day a week? The greed of this company and the anti-employee move is astonishing. Back in the day it was actually fun going to work, now since these new company kamikaze pilots, its a miracle if this place will ever see its former glory. Its a continuous downward spiral. It is miserable as hell working for this company now. I dont recommend this company for customer or employment. You can find somewhere better to shop or work. Give these smaller companies and mom and pop shops a chance. I do not recommend blowes to anyone.

The ratio is not accurate. 1 pro supervisor, 1 lumber/building, 1 receiving/delivery, 1 appliances/millworks supervisor, 1 install, 2 overnight, 1 paint, 1 flooring/Home Decor super, 1 tools/hardware, 1 customer service, 1 garden/seasonal supervisor, 1 plumbing/electrical, 1 installs department supervisor, 1 mst supervisor . So 15 supervisors in my 60 plus million dollar store. Plus five Asm’s and one store manager. So out of 150 employees on staff or more, 135 are employees not managers. Some stores have one supervisor per 3 departments because of their budget and 100 employees and four Asm’s. But there will always be more employees than managers, unless the employees quit.

the years here have proven to me that this company is sadly 2nd rate and this thread is a good example of it. But with so much time in and retirement years quickly approaching it is in my best interest to milk it through. Just wish we were a better company is all.

While the current appliance shortage is due to the pandemic the appliance shortages started in my market at least 5 months BEFORE the pandemic even started in USA. The XDT (aka cross dock combined with 3rd party delivery) method of distributing appliances was a MAJOR change as to how Lowes was processing appliances before hand. The stores are stripped of their inventory of major appliances (i.e refrigerators, ranges, washers and dryers) and practically everything is kept at an ADC/BDC facility which ships directly to the XDT facility. If that ADC runs low than guess what, your SOL as is every store that is feeding off of that ADC/XDT network. Want to ICB something, then you will be paying less-than-truckload to have it shipped in from another state.
Our market was the largest with over 65 stores feeding off of just one ADC location. Poor planning on corporate's part and we have been fighting out of stocks since late Q3 2019.

During that time we also had access to a piece of software that allowed us to monitor both inventory and PO status not just at our servicing ADC but in ALL of them. And guess what, it became blaringly obvious that corporate was not issuing sufficient purchase orders for appliances throughout almost all of Q4 2019. Was not uncommon for the company to be minus 500 or more of a particular appliance with absolutely NONE on order. As soon as Q1 2020 started Lowe's opened the floodgates on issuing appliance POs but by then it was too little and far too late as the pandemic was starting by then. The company was 100% responsible for what happened to our appliance inventory throughout Q3-Q4 2019. The company had plenty of cash to do stock buybacks in both of those quarters but apparently refrained from ordering appliances for reasons unknown. Perhaps one day they will enlighten us as to exactly why that was allowed to happen.

@1ehn. Good post and spot on. Sears went to the part time workforce years go and we know how that turned out. People need to adjust and if they can't they need to find other employment like I did.

I'm a former employee/current stockholder.

The full-time/part-time employee ratio is going to continue to move in favor of a majority part-time work force. This is not a secret and everyone knows it, and new employees should know it going in. Everyone in the building is going to be required to multi-task. This is the main reason that I chose to leave the company three years ago. IF you cannot adapt, then you need to do what I did and find other employment. It's not going to change.

The appliance shortage is mainly due to disruption in the supply chain caused by the pandemic. It is NOT a Lowe's issue. It is frustrating, but Lowe's has little control over it.

It really is a hostile work environment. The ASMs they have are really inexperienced and spend more time Facebooking the associates, or they act like overlords cracking the whip until associates get injured. How is that good for company?

Marvin is running it all on auto-pilot.

Said it once, and I’ll say it again: if companies keep eliminating positions, esp full time positions, they are going to eliminate their customer base because no one will have jobs to spend money on their goods. We’re going to get a good taste of that in the next few months with Covid.

What goes up must come down, when was the last time Lowe's opened a new store? It's been a long time, because Lowe's is on the downward trend and thanks to Marvin has had to close some stores, I expect the trend to continue without new leadership.

Agree with original post. Add to that the Black Friday sales at our store were abysmal. Stuffed animals, dog beds and cheap fake Christmas trees but nothing of sustenance either on sale or available. Estimate better than 80% of the appliances we have on display at our store are completely out of stock and the appliance associates were previously directed by both corporate & district management not to sell into the negative. p-ss-d off customers questioning why Lowe's is actively advertising appliance promotions when we have practically nothing to sell them. Can't even totally blame it on the pandemic as our market has been fighting appliance out of stocks ever since we were transitioned to the "new" XDT delivery system over a year ago. But not to worry as we still have plenty of bamboo paper towels and at least 40 cases of $2 squirt bottles. What a total joke we have become compared to what we use to be and with no end in sight.

They always run job postings, can not keep employees. I was a former lows employee enjoyed it went to a position that was in my trade. Covid hit went back to lows they could not schedule people like they use to. They want full timers to bend over backwards for a buck and have no work life balance. Not a good way to live. They don’t want full time dedicated employees any more. Soon it will be all part timers with no experience
