Being a top performer is a liability here. They have to pay you more to keep you and they know you have several options outside the company. Have you seen how so many bright people have mysteriously left in the past few years across the board?

Most of us are glorified paper pushers anyways with no say or voice in anything. Incompetent and useless managers.
Contrary to popular belief, it’s NOT just low performers that get laid off. If you’re above average intelligence and EQ, challenge the status quo, or speak up, you’ll be the first to go. If don’t think critically, are good at s—ing up and taking orders and a white male, then you’re a good fit for the company and will likely be safe.
