Thread regarding BP PLC layoffs

The 'Don't Talk' policy is ridiculous!

So it seems that impacted employees are telling suppliers, who are telling other employees, but employees are not allowed to speak with each other. And so, the rumor mill churns. Very unhealthy. Very unproductive.

Rest assured, all of Katy, TX, knew who was let go and who was not on the same day that it all came down.

Because bp lower case values the “Speak Up” upper case marketing campaign. Another example of bp wanting to be the barking dog never bite. Applied to bp the same medicine they prescribed.

They let you go and want to tell you who you can talk to. That’s so BP lol

Look after yourself. Do what you need to do.

BP didn’t define you before you worked there. It didn’t make you brilliant when you did. It doesn’t change you now that you don’t.

Agree...I’m sad for everyone impacted but life does go on and there are better days ahead.

The guidance says you can discreetly confide in a colleague. I get it for those placed in roles where they may inadvertently disclosure another’s fate by talking about it. But for those not placed in roles it makes no sense.

We have a bunch of people at BP who can’t speak to their colleagues/friends about the fact they’re about to be made redundant.

The line manager told me I could call EAP if I needed someone to talk to....and to keep the news to myself.

It's not a "policy" and they didn't make you sign anything as part of the package deal so don't keep quiet if you don't want to.

It is an absolute HORRIBLE thing that they even made the request though. People are at home, maybe by themselves, all alone and here we all are in the middle of this pandemic and being told to not even see our family during the holiday and they didn't think that maybe people sitting at home stewing on this news, without being able to talk to their close colleagues was a bad idea???? I don't care and no amount of money is worth me not checking in on people, especially those that I know will take being laid off extremely hard. I also want to encourage my laid off colleagues that there is life out there and pass on any tools at my disposal that might help them.

So am I being "quiet" ? Nope, not one bit. If BP has an issue with it, so be it.
