Thread regarding BP PLC layoffs

Now the anticipation begins

The worrying, the stress, the anxiety... You know, all the things we need more of in the middle of a pandemic. I really wish that instead of making an announcement that said until the end of the year, they gave us a date and then finished it all at once. That would be preferable in my opinion to what we're about to go through.

Any non technical role is destined to move to GBS. It simply is less expensive to have staff in GBS locations. There will be many words used over the years: modernization, roadmap, re-image, re-invent. Of course the EVP, SVP, and VP level jobs wont move there....exempt.

BP has never been good at managing layoffs. Shipping's modernization was a total disaster in the way they handled it two years ago.

I have to believe that employee productivity (below tier 3) is at an all time low. Likely it wont improve once the tier 4 cuts are announced and people exit. At that point those left behind will experience survivors guilt and a challenging work load. Historically the company relies on people more so than processes thus the work never seems to go away.

Completely agree with you guys. One day they say something, the next day they backup and say another. By extending the date just generates more anxiety and stress. And people can't move on. If bp needed the people why inviting them to leave?

I thought about that when the mgmt made a point of mentioning world mental health day recently. ( words vs actions )
