Storage VP and manager level roles were cut on Friday. It went 4 levels deep. I’m hearing the rest of us will learn our fates on 10/19.

500 might be small potato to HPE, but that can wipe out entire departments. Anyone know what locations will be impacted? Houston?

If you're in a sales role and you solely own the revenue stream for a customer or segment then you're probably safe. If you're an overlay, specialist, or a redundant or junior EAM then you're probably not.

Did you make your number this year? That's your biggest clue. Answer all of these questions and you have your answer.

VP's, Directors, Managers, and individual contributors are not immune to this one. From my POV, they have already cut some of the VP's, which was needed. They are consolidating and going back to more generalist sales rather than specialists. Those deemed as "rising stars" are getting more responsibility, sometimes despite what their past results say that they deserve. The rest of us will be informed of our fate on Monday, October 19th. The pendulum keeps swinging every few years, depending on which consulting firm has the executive management ears. Talk to people at HPE who are professionals at sniffing out the layoff and dodging the bullet. They will tell you how many times the company has reorganized their sales force to more generalist, then more specialists, and then back to more generalists. However, the sales compensation plans remain siloed and with specific buckets to aid sales of flagship products. Engineering is still siloed, so real integration between product lines is slow. BTW, I will be shocked if I am not let go on Monday. It's something that I should have done for myself years ago.

I am a manager who got the news on thursday. Prior to that I had no idea of the depth of these layoffs. I believe the cuts will go deep and some very good performers will be let go . . . people that I never thought would be touched. The cuts are coming from all divisions of the business (Storage, Compute, Network, etc)

Oktoberfest Math Equation version 2.0:

Date of WFR Notification =10/19/20
Date at End of 1 work week = 10/23/20
Date at End of 1 work week = 10/30/20

1 day remaining to the 10/31/20 end of FY4Q20 just in time for the Cost Reduction optimization.

Everybody feeling the love from Antonio Neri? - the CEO who leads with the heart, CEO of the year, speaks with his Mom everyday. What a guy. He cares.

His plan from earlier this year was a 3 year restructuring plan. Great - layoffs that go on for at least 3 years. I guess he doesn't want to do them all at once and get them over with. Just let the company bleed for the next 3 years, I guess. You poor people still working at HPE. How depressing it must be.

Based on a slide during PH call yesterday, expect reductions in compute, pointnext and category mgmt and SS&P. That is where they indicted “reduced investments”

Yes - 10/19 notifications for North America. It was announced on PH's All Hands Call on 10/13. You'll find out what your new role is in the next two weeks OR if you have been “displaced”.

Thanks for the info on what happened. Re: Contingent Workers. I'm suspecting it might be there won't be any more contingents left if I go by how much work we have right now at my vendor company.

A Festival Every Month / Monday of the year is what the remnants (i.e. remaining workforce / family) have to look forward to.

There are two more festivals left this year after Oktoberfest, Thanksgivingfest, Christmasfest. There are WFRs also planned for those festivals also. The write offs in cost reductions and increased revenue will just be moved to the next quarter.

There are some widely varying views that were posted including one below the belt..:

  • Leadership / Strategy have consequences - WFRs ; Sr. Mgmt leaving with golden parachutes (i.e. loot)
  • Pants have Zippers - Access
  • Contingent Workers - With the WFRs of permanent employees there should not be any more left.
  • Contingent Workers - A methodology used to circumvent hiring permanent employees.
