I had no idea when I clicked on that link that I'd actually know the person. My heart goes out to Nick's family.

Having been "modernized" by Shipping last year I can say there is life after BP. It may not seem like it at first, but BP is not a good place. To everyone facing layoffs now, hang in there and seek help if you need it!

I had no idea. The s–c-de is quite shocking and sad - maybe that's where all of the 'dealing with anxiety and stress' energy has come from - a reaction to, rather than acknowledgement of, the suice.

It’s pretty shocking that it happened in April and bp said nothing. Especially with all the PR Looney has done on mental health. Very bad form.

Wow. The reported s–c-de is eye-opening. I feel so badly for his family. I appreciate the thoughts shared by others on this thread. I worked my a** off during my career with BP. I had an old-fashioned attitude: work hard, and be recognized. But I soon became one of those who was paid too much for a job that could done by someone on a lower pay scale. I knew this was the case because after the last round of reorganization, my position remained, but they gave it to someone else (in fact he was and is still my friend - I don't hold any grudges). Amusingly, the replacement colleague was a bad match for the position and he went on to something else, which he hated. With almost no notice, he announced his resignation about a year later. To this day, he expressed nothing but contempt for what they did to him. At first, I did feel resentment, but it was like swallowing poison and hope the other guy dies. I'm fortunate that I could take advantage of the retirement benefits and I've landed in a position where my skills are valued. Please do not take your life. There are answers.

Yes so true. There is so much more to life than work. I used to base my self identity on my job, title, pay, car, house. Now I focus on experiences with people I love to be with - family and friends. For me working is only a means to fund this good life. My boss doesn’t understand why I think this way. I think what he means is he can’t take advantage of me and my time.

I've been very fortunate and never contemplated s–c-de and don't think I'd ever consider anything so drastic over work, but I used to be extremely career oriented and worked very hard to move up the ranks. My goal was to keep moving into executive leadership and whatever it took to get there. I did, at one time, base my worth on my career. It took having kids and most recently, Covid to completely put this thinking aside. I am now 100% working to live and not the other way around. I make money only to pay my bills and fund the fun times with my family. My LM once told me that my work product doesn't matter and no one cares, the ONLY way I'll move up in BP is by getting on certain people's good sides and be a cheerleader for their efforts. Needless to say, I'm not moving up in BP and I could less. I'm still cashing my paychecks.

Who are the bullies? Let us folks know who to be wary of. My senior level leader made the list but he isn't a bully, just a coward and completely inept. His only skill is to champion and cheerlead whatever the company is wanting to sell at the time.

No surprises. Only disappointment at how many remain at the upper levels.
