As someone who is in his mid 50s and have seen my position downsized and eliminated three times in my career, the best advice I can give anyone is to allow for grieving but be prepared to pick yourself off the floor just as fast as you can. This is the way of corporations in the modern era. You will likely lose your job a few times in a long career. Don’t let depression to take root. Make finding a new job your new full time
Job. Network like you never have before. And don’t confuse blindly responding to lots of job postings on LinkedIn and Indeed for actual progress...biggest mistake people laid off make. Also, don’t be afraid at looking at contract job opportunities because in today’s economy it likely is your best strategy. Many companies eventually hire contractors full time. You will make it through this. Adaptability and relentless focus is what you need. Be smart with money too.
