Don't wait to be laid off to start your job search. I think everybody here knows (or atleast should know) that it is ten times easier to find a job while you are still employed. Not only is the pressure not as high, but the potential employers look more favorable on people who are not between jobs. What are you waiting for?

If you 'moonlight' make sure you leave bp off of your resume. Every hr department will verify at least your latest employer. That might get embarrassing and jeopardize your severance.
I think employers will be seeing breaks in employment when looking at candidates with this pandemic. You shouldn't have to explain why you left your last job.
This is a very good point and sh–, with everyone being remote you could, in theory, accept a new job and "moonlight" a bit while waiting to hear from bp.
