No layoffs are off the table come February 1 for all retailers and especially full time employees. All retailers are focused on survival; Buy on line, pick up in store and on line direct to consumer. Brick and mortar had somewhat of an uptick when stores opened, but the former is the new survival mode of business. And that will not change, even with a proven vaccine.

"But to take layoffs off the table we would need to have a spectacular holiday."
Layoffs will never be off the table. It has a permanent seat on the table. Once again you want stability in your job, get out of retail. This company is going through a major shift in operation and business model. Not for the weak. Anyone looking at this site for info, spruce up your resume and just start looking.

Layoffs are coming. I work in corporate we keep hearing about it coming right after the holidays. BB&B pays dividends to our stock holders and we pay them out in January. Our sales numbers are not looking good, they're pushing/ hoping Christmas is going to bring up our numbers. But to take layoffs off the table we would need to have a spectacular holiday. We are way way behind where we need to be, right now.

The poster used the word tenure incorrectly. There are no tenured employees.

"Wife won’t let me quit..."
Explains why you stayed for 20 yrs. Time to make your own decisions there.
You may want to start at home first. But they aren't laying off anymore in open stores. It's about firing tenure full timers and management going forward. So if I was you start looking and don't wait. There is no large pay out coming to you. That ship has sailed.
