Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

@austwein

Hey again – this is Austin Weinstein, the banking reporter at the Charlotte Observer. If you're hearing stuff about layoffs that's not confirmed, I can maybe help out. In my experience, banks are far more likely to respond if it's a reporter asking them about layoffs than an individual employee.

Back when COVID first started and folks were testing positive at the CIC, many people first heard about positive tests near them from the media, not the company. Feel free to shoot me an email at aweinstein@charlotteobserver.com or DM me on Twitter at @austwein.

Austin, if you inquire about the layoffs, ask why WF is moving good paying jobs to India:

Thank goodness for risk and compliance cuts. They need to be lean and efficient. Instead they are bloated and their processes
And procedures are laughable. They s— efficiency from real work.

I’m in Risk and nearly 85% of my group’s independent testing engagements planned for 2021 have been canceled without any credible plan to replace them with anything superior. Headcount cuts are next I presume. I know Charlie keeps talking about no cuts in Risk and Compliance and that the regulatory work is very important. There is clearly a disconnect between words and actions.

I received a phone call: “don’t bother coming to work today your position was eliminated” those were my boss words, and because I refused to get fired over the phone and with those words he than accepted to talk to me at the branch. I really wish I could talk to the press about this. I know a lot of people is being lay off but in my care I feel discriminated against.

"If you're hearing stuff about layoffs that's not confirmed, I can maybe help out. In my experience, banks are far more likely to respond if it's a reporter asking them about layoffs than an individual employee." This sounds like gibberish, no way your a writer.

I am a Personal Banker at one of the busiest branches in my district and was laid off along with another employee today. I've been with WF for 10 years. I was told my position was "eliminated." 60 days severance.

Austin ask them about deep cuts, here are some examples of what people reporting - you can ask about each of these:

Systems Engineers (Charlotte, Irving, Chandler, Tempe, Irving, Birmingham, Concord, Danbury) - West Des Moines, IA (Credit Associates/Officers), Concord (Risk Associate), Minneapolis (E-Bus Consultants), IT Security (Amherst, NY and Winston Salem - possibly Chandler but not sure). Investment Resdearch (SF & Chicago), Analytics Analysts/specialst (Altanta, Charlotte, St Louis - possibly Atlana), Securities Bankers (Houston), Web Developers (Fremont and San Leandro)...

There is more...
