The sudden change of heart by leadership to remove the 401k match for those earning > $250M is questionable at best. These employees are the top earners and are more influential than those who earn less. I know that this change was very poorly received by those in this earning class on Wednesday. What message does it send when there is a retraction so quickly when it was such a powerful group that was impacted? If there was anger exhibited by lower earners that impacted their take home pay - a drastic 6% increase in insurance premiums, for example - would the company react in the same way? Doubtful. What are they hiding? What was being threatened? What do these folks know that caused such a quick course correction? This is a dangerous precedent being set by Charlie and his goons. This is the opposite of transparency. We should all be outraged as should our shareholders.
On Wednesday when the change was announced, I did some quick math and estimated that the company would save roughly $500MM per year with this adjustment; that is 5% of the goal to reduce expenses by $10B. This ~$500MM will still need to be cut and it will likely come in the form of staff reductions.
