Thread regarding Pratt and Whitney layoffs

Do you have a plan?

Do you already know what you'll do if your name is on the list? I know I should be using this time to prepare so I'm not "caught with my pants down," but I honestly don't know where to start. I updated my resume, but can't find any places to submit it. I spruced up my LinkedIn, but I only have a few connections there. At least I'm working on lowering my monthly expenses, so that's something. How about the rest of you?

I was genuinely asking what an aerospace specific job was, why all the down votes?

We all know (D) governors want to keep their states locked down. No travel = no need for us. Personally, I think if you're for continued restrictions, you ought to lose your job first.

Not sure what Lamont has to do with Raytheon chopping 15k? The lack of commercial air travel around the world is the cause for the layoffs

Actually, covid won't end BECAUSE of the fearmongering. We should be working and flying without temp checks now, but Lamont will never let that happen, and the hysteria keeps spreading throughout the company.

How much do you make a year

Lots of fear mongering here. Yes some people will get laid off, a lot won’t. Covid will pass, and the industry will recover more quickly than predicted. When the smoke clears Pratt will be short handed and hiring will commence. Keep your heads up

We'll never get past the covid stuff, FYI.

Monthly bills are well below means. If I get severance and unemployment, I’ll use part of severance to pay off a couple of debts. Collect 10 months CT/Federal unemployment and stretch it for 12 month expenses.

Move to cheaper area in a year when we’re past this COVID stuff. Hopefully the economy will be a little better by then.

Not everyone can relocate. My spouse's job keeps us where we are.

Relax. How can be so sure you are going to let go off? Wait and watch. There are jobs out there for sure if you are willing to relocate. In good old days people used to care about length of the employment and how long you are with the same
Company etc but now days it’s millennials time ! They all think you are too comfortable or not willing to change by staying with the one company for a long time ! If you are baby boomers god bless you! Times will get very tough.

I will take the money and relocate to a more desirable location.

I actually want to get laid off.

Sat down with the family and looked at the budget. What are the ongoing monthly expenses and what are the things we can actually cut back on. Mentally preparing different scenarios and how to adapt to the change that might come. Really, not sure what else there is to be able to do. Yes it would be great to start working the network you have. But pretty sure people are going to be looking out for themselves as well. Keep steady. Don’t let anticipation overrun thoughts. That’s about it. Everything else is up in the air. Been through layoffs before. Been through mergers before. This is probably one of the craziest experiences ever.
