Thread regarding Xerox Corp. layoffs

Lay-off month - historical for non-XBS

It’s true that Xerox has been in lay-off mode for years, even as hiring goes up and down. But some of the larger actions I am aware of have occurred in the first month of a quarter, not the last. For this reason October worries me more than September. If you were let go, please share and specify month and how many people you guess were affected. If you are over 50 that’s helpful too.

Is there anywhere I can submit a name to be ax'd? We have this real sh1tbag of a president I'd like to see gone... a few directors, too. I keep holding hope that the big X will make some real cuts and take out the wasteful upper level at our core.

XBS has done massive cuts this month, vp's, executive level, sales. They will continue with operations over next few months. Next step is to cut out director roles. The department managers are equipped to run their own teams. Then they will evaluate the OP teams and their headcount.

Nothing to do with age, nothing to do with performance. Why would anyone here think that layoffs are a well planned conspiracy? XRX management can’t plan anything properly so all of a sudden this a well thought out action? XRX has cut enough people that all demographics are equally represented. XRX simply cannot afford this size workforce. Expect the cuts to continue, randomly, for as long as revenue declines. If this bothers you, get the **** out. A ton of smart people did. On their own terms. If you are younger and not leaving you are either paralyzing lazy or obtuse so there is not hope for you anyway.

@4rjc+170RUbVd I agree with you that performance is NOT a guaranty that you will have a job. I was furloughed in May (direct Xerox) and my letter said it was not based on performance. I had been the number one tech numbers wise for the last 4 years...all green...hours worked per day, expenses, reliability, and the list goes on. Even got the extra 3 percent bonus in March (everyone got the 2 percent last summer). The other 4 work group members mostly all red numbers wise, multiple on going customer complaints etc. The only difference besides the "numbers" was they are all in their mid 50's and I am low 60's. So it's hard to think that it was not an "age" thing but my manager said it had nothing to do with age and we all worked on the same products and salaries were very similar.

In the long run nothing we do (age discrimination etc) is going to hurt the company. It might make you feel better but it's been a wonderful summer not stressing about being treated like garbage everyday. Take the severance and bank it for a rainy day. I'm pretty sure they are counting on a multitude of people being tired of waiting to leave/start a new job and they will just leave on their own. Me however I'm waiting it out until I get the last penny from them!! Stay safe!!

I have been working here 32 years. There isn't an employee in this place that believes Xerox most Senior Management has even one scintilla of loyalty to its employees. Its important I put that qualifier in there because I get really upset at this idea that Xerox Senior Management is basing cuts on s-x, race or age. It's not. Here's how not it is. They literally make sure that every group is cut so that they ARE not liable for this. Any Lawyer saying they have a case against this company doesn't have the full numbers. This company is notorious for not giving a rats behind who it cuts. I have heard of Managers telling senior management..."if you are making me cut 1, that is the Last person I want cut' and yet...slammo. The only thing not random about its cuts is the organizations that get cut. They simply decide how many from said group need to go and they literally make sure they arent going to get sued. At one point I asked my boss..."why have i not been laid off? You just laid off someone who's performance is considered elite. I thought performance dictated job security and now I have NO IDEA why i still have a job or what if anything i can do...to keep my job. And the fact is...she didn't know how to answer me. Anyway...all I'm saying is stop whining...they cut you because of some reason that has nothing to do with performance. Stop crying unfair. If you didn't know that Senior Management has no loyalty to you...30 years ago....you were living in a massive case of denial or ignorance. Sorry

My attorney said based on the Xerox provided OWBPA reports from mine and my wife’s termination that the case was strong, and in fact argued that a class action was warranted if more reports showed the two reports were not outliers. Sadly no one seems to be interested in sharing their own reports and everyone is terrified of the general release which itself is subject to challenge in court, making a class action unlikely.

In my case, younger sacrificials were not included although they could have been.

It seems that Xerox’s best interests are served by settling for an amount that includes future years lost earning potential and earnings. The costs for defending these actions in court and the intangible harm to the company for a public record outcome in the plaintiff’s favor forces the defendants hand toward settlement.

I was one of those terrified by the release, and unwilling to risk legal costs to pursue. Providing this info for future laid off individuals.

How strong it is all depends on what ages are in your group...If Xerox was smart they would put a wide age gap such as a couple of 30 year olds up to several older (over 55)...I have heard sometimes Xerox will sacrifice a younger person to make sure the age discrimination thing is a mute point...Now if everyone in your group was over say 55 then that would be considered possibly strong...My guess is Xerox has figure out all the loop holes as many times as they have done this the past 20 years...

Your case is not strong. The attorney was planning to roll the dice.

Some techs have been brought back to support major or critical accounts. But the majority that were placed on furlough remain there.

I was laid off in late April 2019. My wife was laid off in August 2017. Both of us received the mandatory older workers protection act detail report showing in fact we were the oldest in our groups selected for lay-off. Neither of us filed an EEOC complaint under ADEA, although I regret doing so after consulting an attorney who specializes in age discrimination cases who said the case is strong. In my group 14 were affected, in my wife’s group 23.

Last 10 years any month was a lay-off Month.
Traditionally, Xerox is known to lay-off during the Thanksgiving and Xmas holidays. Senior
management always seem to take great delight in announcing cutbacks during this time period. It seemed they always wanted to send a message to the survivors “you’re lucky to still have a job.Now prepare to worker harder next year ...“

My husband was furloughed mid - May. ( part of XBS) . He was called one week ago and told that he and 40 others’ jobs were terminated. He wasn’t told the exact number that were furloughed with him back in May. He is over 50.

*** I also wanted to note to those that have lost their jobs, please be aware , they promise you a pittance of a Severance package, but no date on when you’ll receive it.
We also received an insurance bill today from Xerox . We’ve been paying to keep our health insurance while on furlough, 345 bucks a month .
According to Xerox, our insurance will be eliminated as of this coming Thursday (24th) , but we got a bill today to pay 345 bucks again. I called insurance. They have gotten no notification that my husband is no longer employed, so they sent us a bill which will be to cover the month of October.
If you get canned, don’t pay your insurance bill until you call the INSURANCE company to ask if they are aware of it.
My thoughts are with all of you who are on furlough or have lost your jobs. Difficult times.

There has not been a lot of layoff activity this year. Drips and drops of layoffs and furloughs but nothing wide scale even tho Xerox’s revenues are in the gutter & necessitate cuts.

I have seen just the opposite with direct xerox. Normally it would be the last month of the quarter because if you work 1 day in the new quarter they owe you your vacation entitlement for that quarter. There hasn’t been any rhyme or reason at Xerox the last 10 years so so October may be just as lay off able as September. Will report back if something happens.
