I left a couple of years back. Sad to see the company is in this state today.
Moving out of EM is not as easy as most would think, especially if you are a generalist and have more than 7 or 8 years experience. Most commercial roles require experience in P&L responsibilities or have a network of customers, of which roles that offers such experience within EM is very limited.
And if you are the few who are in touch with customers today, remember to build your network, otherwise the moment you leave and without your EM name card, no one will want to meet you and you are very quickly forgotten.
Specialist who move out do the same job in other companies maybe with a slight bump in pay. Those who did so find themselves pigeon-holed and find that it is difficult to find progression. But that's the reality. Some companies have people do the same role for 10,15,20 years. Most MNC use HR consulting companies to benchmark pay level/ increment and it is about the same for most, so no need to wonder. Even if there's variation, it is not much.
There's no such thing as planned job rotation, internal job postings are available but more often or not they are filled with externally with relevant experience. Most company don't have the luxury of time or headcount to train, they need plug and play. There's no such thing as developmental roles, headcount is being scrutinized all the time.
Having said that, if you are willing to take risk, take on more responsibility and put yourself out there, the world out there can be more rewarding, in terms of progression and variable pay, than what EM has to offer.
But otherwise, like most whom I am still in touch with, for the job/ responsibility, the pay in EM is still attractive.
All the best to those who are looking, those who are staying and those who are leaving.
