What is your ranking like for these years?

13 years in the company after uni and I’m drawing 15k/month so I’m quite sure 20k is doable

I'm still with EM but find it amusing with those bashing on shopee. At least the young people who left are in the tech sector and can move on to other tech companies. Oil and gas is pretty much ded (lesser growth) compared to tech.
I'm in the stage of my life where I'm comfortable with where I am and I made enough through options last year to retire. Hence, I'm not moving. But for those who moved on to shopee/tech, jiayou! It's a good move imho.

What’s she working in Shopee as?

Got reports, no reports?

Looks like it’s true - Shopee Shopee #1.

At least Shopee can hire Mark Lee, Gurmit Singh for ads? who the he-l did EM hire for ads? All the actors are found in the EM managers telling you that PA is meant to improve your performance?!

It Is certainly possible to earn 20k per month in shopee though. My wife is working there now and she is getting 18k-ish. Should be able to hit 20k within 3 years. Her background was in actuarial science and was working in insurance companies as an actuary. She got a 20% increment 2 years ago when she was offered a role with Shopee and received at least 8% increment every year since

Only the top Directors and CEOs of SMEs here draw $20K pm and higher salaries.

DHs with >20 years in EM are on par.
Fact, speaks for itself.

Why the sudden obsession of a $20K pm salary?
I thought they we have many newbies here all raring to get out of EM to join the likes of Shopee?

To attain a $20K pay, it is certainly possible in EM, but you’d need to work for at least 15-20 years.

I’m not even sure if one can smell $20K, working as a salaried manager in Shopee, till the day you retire?

20k is definitely achievable as long as you wake up shouting we are ExxonMobil daily and continue to do what you can to please your execs and you should be able to get there. Stay strong my friends and remember WE ARE EXXONMOBIL #winning

Woww, 20K can feed a lot of mouths. Is this for the selected few or can an average Joe reach this range?

Here some are overpaid some underpaid, some busy like he-l some shake leg, some got good work life balance some never.. Thats life there is no such thing equal opportunity. Bias and politics is everywhere.. in ranking, in progressing, promotion, assignments. Some are good in play politics, some hate it. Some can fake so well, some not. It just part of makeup of whole, so some happy some not, sadly leaders in current situations has not many true followers, so ranking is top no. 1 tool for manager, else they will feel powerless. COMPLETE POWERLESS. so is there balance to restrict abuse of power in corporate? As you progress, you will feel many either drag you down or stress you out if you offence or argue or make unhappiness, awkward the power guy, to speak out some truth, all personal bias come in, manager is also human have bias, so dont get your managers unhappy even he is wrong, make him/her happy. Then all happy. Thats how to surive but not how company survive. Hidden truth remain hidden. Problem and issues repeat by its own. People issue remains to keep managers busy. Finding root of people problem cannot be solved by LPS...we all know why, when a young bright fellow leave with some good knowledge and skill, is it a loss to organizations. But seems like it doesn't matter.

Didn’t know there’s so many financial planners around in EM? What’s a man to do when he’s earning more than 20k a month. Of course get a nice house in D9, 10, 11; get a Mercedes, BM, Jag. The price is small too- just sell the soul to DW and GC. I don’t blame GC for thinking I’m overpaid because I feel she’s overpaid too.

It’s all about money yah. With lesser money, your life will have to change. With no more money coming in, it will be desperation.

Hmmm it looks like many people are worried about losing their jobs now.
Must be the psychological effect of recurring 8% NSI and annual PIP / PIL face offs that’s rearing it’s ugly head in the minds of many of our employees!
Losing sleep. That is very sad :(

For a dual-income family drawing $500K pa, you’d need cash savings of at least $2M to tide you over the next 5 years - in the event that one spouse were to lose your job (and not get a replacement, equal-paying one; or worse, not get one at all for a protracted period … not uncommon during this pandemic) - but yet, want to maintain the same lifestyle during the jobless interim.
Of course, that will be versus the alternate option (like some say in this forum) of having to sell house, sell car (and sell pants?) the moment you lose your job!

I think many in SG (not just EM), with one of the highest cost of living in this region - if not the world, especially the 30-40-somethings who are married with children, are all facing the same financial dilemma of high-loans, low cash savings, but with a high asset quanta on property and car(s).
All material wealth from heavy borrowings!

If you have to count your cash in-flows and out-flows every single month, to ensure that you’re always end on a net-positive balance ….. then you’d be deemed living from hand to mouth already, regardless of the number of assets that you “own” - all on borrowed monies!

Those assets really belong to the banks, who can and will repossess them all, the moment you default on re-payment.

Call it long-tenure mortgage / loans, or whatever that suits your fancy, but it’s still “hire-purchase” to me.

I got no plan B too. Early 40s, 2 kids. Only 1 house at bukit timah area with long tenure mortgage, a continental car. I can’t afford to lose my job and therefore, I’m shouting we are ExxonMobil even in my sleep and sucking up to my bosses in Houston. This way, I can never be PIPed. Sharing my best practices here so you guys can survive too.

You speak the truth and I can empathise with that ….. been there, done that.
That was the most perilous stage of my career / life, when loans were high, cash savings short and a budding family with young children - making you (and spouse) most vulnerable, in the event of a job loss.

The supervisors have not been “trained” yet, to perform the PA comms. They will be, in the following week.
By then HR will confirm if a PIL option will indeed be offered, in lieu of a PIP.
For those who claim that they’ve already had their formal PA comm session, I can tell you that it’s a whole load of BS.
HR’s e-mail to all supervisors was just only circulated yesterday - giving the green light to do so wef July 26.

Be strong stay strong my friend
To stay or to leave is personal
Not everybody is lucky enough to have the luxury and strong financial backup and can afford to be kicked out
Pretty tough to be in your position just do what you need to do for the sake of your family my friend

I have no Plan B. Early-40s, with 3 school-going kids.
We are high on max bank loans, with little cash savings.

  • Housing mortgage
  • Second mortgage
  • New car loan
  • Bank overdraft facility, with 3.8% EIR
  • Little cash savings cannot last >1 month

If I lose my job, will need to sell car, sell house and downgrade to HDB :(

And looking for an equal-paying job, at 40-plus, is tough. Many rejections. Many no interviews :(

No fake news. Only brutal truths.

Circumstances are fluid and changes quickly. Just because it didn’t come out as per what the forum mentioned doesn’t mean it’s fake. It just means that things change, and therefore, there’s a change in direction.

For those who are oblivious to reality, the mid year adjustments were for people with strong PA results in 2020. Not for the current PA.
