so many fxxking DH meh?
Useless lah, title so big but doesnt know anything, only knows how to FLY.

the management skills in EM is useless in the outside world, and the feelings that you feel you are controlling everything as a DH is just deluded.

Inevitably, EM is becoming a normal and common company, with less competent remaining, and attracting only the less competent candidates applying for the job opening.
The drama and ongoing PIP are scaring away the top talents who donnt want to waste their time here.

@8fcco+16zEvLP3 Very flawed sentence composition. It is hard to believe you are capable of being a DH.

NMPT and DH wannabe? LOL! Grow up boy!

I am also very happy, having remained in EM and earning high pay.
A DH before I turned 37.
I never had to please my boss, nor struggle every year, to avoid any PIP.
Consistently receiving EM stock options for almost every year.
For me, it all comes naturally … no need to look outside.

Kudos to 100+ employees at Singapore who planted more than 400 trees across Jurong Island’s main highway in just one day!
What a great post on LI !!

From Gan to GC, you already know how much standards have fallen in one generation. Singaporeans, save yourselves - look for new jobs bah. I’ve left and a lot happier now with higher pay and don’t have to worry about pleasing my boss and avoiding PIP.

A dying corporation has signs, drop out from Dow which means industry make up has shifted, smart capital management fund shy away from these risk in long term, Buffet sold his holding long ago, ppl leaving, downgraded rating, unhappiness in the work place, fail to attract top talent, asset heavy, high cost to produce product, arrogance, ignorance, lack of innovation, high risk working environment, complicated work process, promote ppl power corruption practices, legging in competing space, you name it what current status is to make it float/survive that’s all won’t have anymore benefits like in the past high pay rise, good business travel opportunities, fat expat package, hotel training classes…because the needs to put money back to shareholders not employees. Want to join or continue to work in this kind of environment, make some smart decision and decide early where and which fish tank you want to swim in the next 20-30yrs. It’s the fish tank more important than the capabilities of the fish, very capable but in the wrong fish tank you will regret in 20yrs time while no one can predict 20yrs from now but industry revolution history will show some light.

Ang moh always gets priority in this company and country.

Ang moh road rage: self defense
Singaporean road rage: as----t.

So what you expect any difference in this American company. Go practice your American slangs and lingo - might help to bring your POT up.

not suprising, there is a Process Sect Sup from Lab background

I am not surprise even if a business background person becomes a process section supervisor. The older process folks whom the young supervisors rely on will one day retire. If there is no strong backfill at that level, I foresee the plant will have issues. This is when musical chair game stops.

I believe many people will agree with me. This is one of the contributor to what had happened now. Sadly, my supervisor/manager do not agree with this point. He/she do not believe that last batch of management promote people without looking at accreditation but based on what others promote (e.g. relationship).

It's a game in EM and reward is big. Play it right, you may win. What game is it? That's for you to find out. It definitely does not rely on technical skill, at least not a large fraction. Still stagnant in your position and you have been working for 7-10years, you have practically lost the game. Unless of course you are at the top already, can't move anymore right since this is a US company and amgmo gets priority.

The problem about staying while you are no leader (in EM context) is you continue doing your scope of work, which you will come to realize it's so narrow, and so EM centric. You will feel the comfort of staying in your position because of the pay. You may be lucky to move to gain new experience internally, whether it is something you like or not. But that also becomes lesser as time passes. Your skill may be confined if you don't take any action to improve beyond doing your work. Sooner or later, age catch up, you may fall into cruise mood, and your career will be dictated fully by the people above you. There is nothing you can do because no one hires EM centric with general skillset (for some positions) with such a pay and worse still you are the quiet one with little inter personnel skills. That's truly the end of 30 years of 9-5 job. I have seen many older colleagues who has to keep up just to put food on the table. Some days are fun with laughters with colleagues but beyond that it's just you know.... Surrendering your live over to corporation. When oil comes down, there goes your 9-5 job as well. Take action, get out of the rut early (if you are in one) so you won't regret. MONEY is not everything, if you have the time still.

EM SG is all about showing "leadership". If doing real work, burn and sweat only, you may get up to a lead/advisor or lucky ones gets some supervisory flavor. That's it. Live with that throughout your career. If can bear with that, money may be good still compare to outside. Just don't fall into low rank because high flyers with "leadership" climb above you. And PIP becomes your friend. They who are your juniors will one day give you direction and your ranking dependent on them. Can live with it? Good you will be rewarded with still good pay while it last.

Use to be good place to do real work until they messed up by promoting "high flyers" because of "leadership" capability. These people sitting on throne throwing questions at every corner, coining their so called own initiatives, and promoting their own kind. Those that can work, get things done but have less exposure because they are simply quiet by nature are thrown in doing rubbish work and these people will take forever to move up the ladder. Finally, they sack these people when times are bad and branded them as valuable but not align with company culture with little prospective. And now oil price back up to $80. I hope to see things turn around because I owe some career progression to some people in the company.

Where got failure? Both DW and GC have just said we are winning and we are winning so hard that others can’t compete with us. That’s why all of the management committee is getting huge fat bonuses, while others are getting encouraging increments. No?

Cigarettes with duty not paid is not company daiji leh. That one you need to ask customs why can bring so many duty free cigarettes over to SG.

Exxonmobil, please leave Singapore. It was nice before merger, it was okay just after the merger. Now it’s gone horribly wrong.

Because of you, i have a nice car, house and family. But also because of you, my life has turned out to be a mess. 20 years i’ve wasted.

Investigators are chasing their tails here with the previous shipment of Jet A-1, which is commonly used for passenger planes, which was “discovered” to have water in them.

As many here can figure out, Water will freeze on high altitudes due to colder temperatures and could cause a plane to lose propulsion.

Who is to blame for this recent mishap?

Perhaps the technicians and management are too busy with selling contraband cigarettes to even notice. There are many possibilities but one thing is for sure - you’ll never want to put water in your own car, much less an airplane carrying hundreds of people on board.

Taken from forums.salary.sg post on Exxonmobil Operations technician job, last page.

“
Thousands of duty unpaid cigarettes were found at Exxonmobil Jurong Isand facility. It is not known who actually owns them. While Jurong Island is a Protected Area and is guarded by armed auxiliary policemen and the army, many were stunned of the breaking news while some speculated whether the recent loss of income due to the non payment of bonuses may have led the Exxonmobil staff themselves to sell illegal / contraband cigarettes.

This is not the first time that such a huge bust up of illegal cigarettes were found. Just as recently as 2020, an unknown black plastic bag was found in front of the plant’s Firehouse were found to contain thousands of duty unpaid cigarettes.

Tough times….

I wonder if the management is looking into this. Seems no news so far even with the discovery last year. Oh well, Exxonmobil is really in an unstoppable downward spiral as it is.”

Investment banking at 10k and ups for fresh grads. Only if you are really strong.

Otherwise, be glad you can get a job at Exxon. We might be kicked out of Dow but we are still a big company.

So said your managers.
