@aWjwa+16zEvLP3 LMAO! Do not call them leaders!

i think many leaders fail to understand that their role is not to get paid more for doing less.

they ought to know that the reason that they are better paid and placed in this leadership position, is to help the team achieve more. And they got to walk the talk.
And not just using buzzwords, sweeping concerns brought up under the rug, and let their subordinates struggle with the workload.

Although I can see why this is a surefire way to maximize their "performance".
Push your subordinates beyond their limit to do more (not bothered about their mental well-being), then you can boast about your "achievements" for ranking. Repeat for another year, and you are promoted to your next better position. Who cares about this "short term" concerns of these subordinates?

Sometimes i feel that subordinates are being too nice to their bad supervisors.
Call them out, feedback that LTA behavior and support of theirs if the supervisors don't perform.

Again, i know this is hard when you perceive that your career would be at stake if you speak up on that. I was in that position.

Now that i've left, i regretted not doing the right thing. :(

probably that is why you see more and more lousy supervisors.

a good supervisor value adds the team.

i guess you've experienced a bad one.

sadly, my experience so far is that the ratio is tilted towards more bad supervisors.

Same job, same pay.

1 senior operation supervisor = 3 senior operation technicians.

But all the work are done by technicians. Company do not need supervisor to shake leg in the meeting room.

This is because SLS preferred to collect status directly from FLS than going to technicians. This is about trusting FLS. But SLS did not know a lot of FLSes are giving false data in order to look good. When anything went wrong. They will blame the technician immediately. If not, ask the naive young contact engineer. Another issue is when technician fed supervisor so much info. They got this opportunity to learn without putting effort. Eventually they gain so much information and became Operation Advisor to extend their retirement. Some used technicians will be laid off due to old age with no promotion in their lifetime. Once removed FLS, we solve this problem. But another problem will form because nobody want to do the job due to no promotion. I am very sure ex-FLS will push this job to worker bees and say it is their turn to shine (without promotion). This is when you can see who are the real contributors in the organisation.

As an ex-Ops technician. I want to be transparent to the company. There is no need to have first line supervisor or even senior lead technician. Frankly speaking, there is no additional value added having them because whatever they are doing. Any experience technicians can do same job at lower rate.

By the way, my previous supervisor told me openly to carry his ba--s and his comrades. Be their Personal Assistance first. Only they are happy and opportunity arise you will be promoted.

What the heck, company is losing talent because of these scumbags. I am much more capable than them yet they are toying around my progression.

There is no need FLS of tomorrow. This should rename as no FLS tomorrow.

If they seriously that good. You will see their true colour after company removed this role. I will tell you! A lot will not perform anymore because they are not as good as you think they deserved.

The tech companies are going thru retrenchment which EM just did. Is EM in a better place ? If you think so , you deserved to perish with it. The current high price of oil is the last light before it diminishes . OPEC + is just buying time to try to squeeze as much from the mkt as it can… we can this milking the dying cow before it becomes a dead dog. If you are still hanging on , good luck. The emerging trend of renewables is a foregone conclusion so is the sunset and last light of oil and gas industry . With high oil price it only harden the resolve to break the Cartel and pivot towards diversified renewable sources of energy. When ecoy goes into recession, oil and gas will have another round of retrenchment … it has already gone down the slippery slope of destruction. I am building my passive income so that when this sinking ship sinks like the Hong Kong floating restaurant , I know that I can stay afloat . Good luck folks as we continue to row , row and row like the musical les miserables … while our execs (eunuchs) continue to dance and sing praises to emperor ‘s gown …..

@aPuox+16zEvLP3

I left EM for FAANG. Sure, my RSUs don't look as great as when I first signed but I'm still making more than I can ever expect at EM with my YoE.

Sure, I felt a tint of regret seeing XOM's price skyrocket, but it's not like it had any downstream impact on the payslip of most employees.

That said, after EM's retrenchment exercise, I learnt never to take job security for granted. I don't see my current employer as the one I'll stay with for decades, but rather as an opportunity to grow. Wherever the winds of industry blow, that's where I'll pivot to.

Tech got hit and manufacturing can stand the the wave that is coming? All sector will get hit. Only difference is which company treat their workers more fairly. Figure out yourself for those in EM. Goodluck.

Despite record crude oil price we are still cutting head counts . Believe this is to right size the actual organisation in the future . So the msg is clear , XOm is shrinking …. From a titanic slowly to a barge . Not sure why the younger folks are still hanging around and not look for escape … it’s a worrying trend

So true:

In the fifties is never easy to find a job to match my current pay check. Don’t even think to jump ship or doing grab. Sian man, having a very bad feeling before the result is out in Aug/Sep.

Fail to plan, you plan to fail. Don’t be surprise you were thrown into the NSI or NI group! It is a joy to see how families are affected! We are EM family (NOT!) Be warned

@aFfrb+16zEvLP3. Take heart and don’t worry too much . Come what May. Meantime do what is within your control. Take time off to relook your financial commitment . Plan for the worst case scenario. With the pip in place u know what plot the company is playing . It basically gives company the lever to trigger layoff without compensation whenever there is a crunch. What goes up must come down. Oil price will tank if ecoy goes into recession. So brace yourself for the eventuality… EM is no longer the EM it used to be . The less u need to count on it , the better for u

@aFnmy+16zEvLP3 LOL! Why put up with ZERO increment for years and be labelled as a terrible performer and a problematic employee? Easy scapegoat. Need significant improvement! PS every knows who you are ;) stop procrastinating and hope that things will get better, it won’t. Move on, there are better places to go to.

@aFtto+16zEvLP3 Frankly, there is nothing wrong being labelled as NSI. Do not do anything extreme just because someone try to challenge your pride and ego.

Think rationally if you have family to take care.

If you have tons of money in bank, or you have found better job, then go ahead. Otherwise, try to view this objectively, whether we can be more flexible to adapt to the changes.

@aFbze+16zEvLP3 Why subject yourself to such humiliation? Being labelled NSI is terrible. If I were you, I’ll find another job.

If you’re in your fifties, be prepared to receive the best award from EM, not the best employee or long term award but PIP. Reasons, you’re either too old and/or expensive to the corporate. EM could easily hire a few new guys to replace you. They’re much cheaper, younger, energetic and wouldn’t say no to more work.

Previously due to some reasons, my previous SLS didn’t fight for me and I received PIP but managed to pass in the end. I’m in the fifties and planning for the worst case scenario if I got PIP again. Not sure if I’m going to make it this time round. Seeking advise to stay or to fight again?

A mistake for EM employees in general is being too comfortable with the company and contented with the pay. In the past, yes it is a company you can stick with until retirement.

Today, it is not the case. YOE will work against you and it is a better idea to use this opportunity to find a better place. Do not hope that it will get better for you.
