Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

GM contract jobs only 32 hrs a week now!

So I have moved on to another automotive company, but still get contacted by job hunters. I have been contacted about 2 different GM contract jobs the past month and both were only 32 hours a week. What a shame GM! Post about your new diversity exec some more and watch them leave.

I think its time for Mark Reuss to step aside and let some new blood in product design...One step forward for FCA, when Fiat can in, is senior leadership turn-over, especially interiors.

Maybe then Mark will have time for driving lessons

Begging the correction?

William Durant founded GM which was not his first massively successful business. He was forced out by investors because the company was over-extended due the insane rate it was acquiring new assets, like Cadillac among others. After that, he founded Chevrolet and grew it to the point where he and other investors where able to use it's stock to put William back in control. After he got pushed out again he used his time becoming the world's richest man...really. Though he did die relatively poor in Flint. I never read anything about him drinking.

I think the earlier post hints at Walter P. Chrysler who was described as an alcoholic. He quit GM despite being paid one of the highest salaries in the industry (maybe it WAS like new GM:) The money GM paid him to stay made him one of the richest men in the country. He went on to found his own company which ended up being successful to the point where he able to finance the construction of what ended up being the tallest building in the world when it was completed. He stepped down on his own accord.

I guess maybe they both could be considered gamblers...neither GM or Chrysler would exist if they weren't.

The previous post gives me chills thinking of the fighters-of-false-demons that prevail at the new General Motors. Spewing poison and gossip that's more wrong than right to bolster their own sense of superiority. To win arguments that facts cannot. If you don't have the ability, how else would you WIN? That's the culture. I doubt William or Walter would have been allowed to work very long at the current GM. Facts or falsehoods, drunk or not, people would say, "GM has a way of getting rid of people like that" and they'd both be marked for banishment in the inevitable next round of layoffs.

GM has been making dumb decisions prior to having too many young inexperienced engineers.

Maybe we should start at the beginning....hiring and firing of the same alcoholic gambler, William Durant as CEO twice...want me to continue?

I have worked. contract engineering positions at GM, Ford and FCA. GM is by far the worst experience. GM wants you to put in extra time to get the job done (like direct hire) but refuses to pay overtime. Also, GM has too many young inexperienced engineers that are making poor decisions. There are even a few female engineering managers who are incompetent and who likely made it through the Mary Barra diversity entrance.

I worked Ford once and that was the absolute worst bottom barrel. I hear FCA is good.
GM was good up till 2018, it's due to the previous CFO, Barra and her crew.
It's beyond time for new leadership at GM, will it ever change? Highly unlikely.

I have worked in all big three as contract. GM is by far the worst by 1000 miles. Stay away.

I know of several contract managers at the Warren Tech Center that work circles around their GM peers.

I think 32 hours is the dividing line between part time and full time.

Does that 32 hours require massive amounts of uncompensated ad-hoc unplanned overtime like salaried work, or are you limited to 32-and-done?
