There are a ton of PMs working IT projects that have no IT experience.
I spend a lot of time answering basic questions.
Very, very basic questions.
It's just one of the many time wasting exercises we deal with in IT while we work hard to take tech back to the 90's.
But Agile!
Would hope that it affects the RMs that golfed, dined, and drank on their PCards without bringing in a single new customer for years.
The fact is, anytime a PM is involved leading one of my projects it takes more of my time to help them document the milestones and do the paperwork than the actual work that they should be doing. I know of maybe one PM in the entire bank that was a rock star and they have actually moved on into a bigger and better role now.
PMs are a thing of the past, move aside here comes Agile (also late to the game). If you're a PM you need to upskill on Agile, critical thinking, and analysis and focus on adding value.
Reality is our 80%+ of PMs provide very little value. Achieving a milestone, submitting a status report, or completing admin tasks in EPMD are not accomplishments.
There are way too many PMs at the Wholesale level and within the LOB. Expect half of all PMs to be let go in the next 30-60 days.
After seeing the PM’s and PMM’s and those the one that failed out of Harvard but lets everyone know he went there, I’m hoping there is a large swath of them gone.
I’m not sure if the old Wholesale PMO has been split between CIB and CB, but it is not remotely as bloated as what remains of the PVSI PMO many of whom don’t have PM titles but do that job.
Most of the businesses have PMOs with around 150 people including managers and most already meet span of control requirements well beyond the minimum.
Contractor PMs are being released as we speak. PMs aren’t any safer that anyone else, but despite some negative perceptions there are probably between 2500 and 3500 PMs total of the 270000 employees. I’m speaking specifically of people who carry that title, and not other people who carry consultant type titles and end up acting in a PM capacity.
PM’s in general will be rough- there’s too many and they’re not actually doing the work! No offense, I see the value in pm’s but we don’t execute it well here. Too much times is wasted
Everyone will be impacted and many negatively – even CB and PM's. it's going to be brutal. Saddle up.
