Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

H-1B posts keep getting removed....

I lost my job training an H-1B. Every-time I post, it gets removed. Either you are an American company or NOT. How many jobs get lost to foreign workers? Maybe Nike is not an American company anymore. China's little Bi*@ch. I don't think they want to get exposed for their hypocrisy. I remember seen the HUGE BANNER that said "EQUALITY" across the Nolan Ryan Building. Equality unless you are are older and can be replaced by H-1B. Someone needs to say it. Stop being scared...

Longer tenured employees and older people require more benefits. Since we aren't a country where the government uses our tax money to provide affordable healthcare, that is left to the companies we work for to provide that. Unfortunately, those are the first things they look at when trying to watch the bottom line. They can't take away health benefits, but they can weed out the employees that need/use them more.

Also, unfortunately, workers in the US have been conditioned that this is the only way to do it, and the alternative (i.e. M4A) is a socialist pipe dream that we cannot afford (while we spend around half our budget on defense).

I personally know more than a couple families that have moved from the US to Europe over the last several years for this reason. I would definitely encourage people to look outside of this country for better places to work and live.

I am an experienced over 60 white Male and i had to leave the states to get a good job. No one in the states would hire me let alone give me an opportunity to win the position. I lowered my expectations and applied for positions i was qualified for. A company in Asia contacted me gave me an opportunity to compete. I am now working in Asia where my experience is valued. I had worked for Nike for many years and i left to get more experience. I left on good terms but every time i applied i got the rejection e mail. Companies talk about being inclusive but many really do not understand what that means

@pbd of course its money! Why would it be anything else? The free market is an amazing idea until it hurts, right? You think if H1 law gets cancelled suddenly hundreds of new jobs will open up here. No! The jobs will go where it makes economic sense. Are you ready to go where the jobs are? Folks were ready to leave our farms in Europe and travel to this new land in search for a better tomorrow. Why aren’t we prepared to move out of Portland???!!!

this is why they remove it:

  • 80% of h1bs are from india
  • once we start talking h1bs, at somepoint it turns to talk about one ethnic group
  • it get's heated
  • back and forth starts
  • thread turns into a cesspool of hate
  • read site rules: no talk about religion, ethinicity, politics, etc is allowed

i think that is why mods nuke posts like this

my 2 c only

@uzo+16nS3Svm - I tried to talk to both the state and feds about the H-1B issue. I even tried to file a complaint with the Dept of Labor after being replaced by an H-1B. They were frustrated because there was nothing that they could do because the worker was hired through a 3rd party (like Cognizant). Be careful what you wish for.

After losing my job to an H1-B worker at Nike, I was lucky enough to a chance to go back to school to get my MBA. I've done a fair amount of research on the H-1B program. Their is massive fraud and abuse. You can say that foreign workers are "good", but you have not done the research. H1-B workers produce far less intellectual property and far less committed the companies. Which makes sense because they cannot change companies. So what is the reason that companies prefer H1-Bs??? Only one reason. Money! When you have 400 VP's that are compensated with stock, ONLY the shareholder matters. Nike used to be a place where employees mattered just as much as the stockholder. Now, I'm only a stockholder. I feel sorry for you puds that did not get to experience the joy of actually working with real athletes. Making them better on the field. All you have is an empty campus full of empty people. Enjoy!

If you have an issue with foreign workers go talk to your state and federal elected officials. A company like Nike will take advantage of anything they can legally get away with to increase profits.

If its OK to expect that the world will let us sell our goods worldwide, then we can’t hold onto the “American company “ trope. The free market is a great idea, but it doesn’t care for national affiliation. We Americans need to be ready to travel globally and work globally as well.

It is wrong to blame the immigrants. Lay-offs are pure business decisions so Nike will always fire the most expensive employee.
If there is anything to blame then that is Nike itself and the capitalist American system. Selfish freedom above fairness begets a harsh society where lower employees are elbowing each other while the fat cats get all the perks.
This is what you get for voting for a lying, cheating reality-tv host who never worked in his life.

I agree that it's a shame that hard working American are being replaced with immigrants just because they are cheaper.

If you blame your job loss solely to immigration status, you are wrong. A lot of hard working ppl in Nike are immigrants on H1B, they are just like you and me, doing the job, supporting their families, suffering from the everlasting pandemic and waves of layoffs. You talk about equality yet you take your citizenship as a privilege.
