Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Yo, I just got a job offer from Honeywell Safety Products.

I got a job offer from HON but I've been reading this forum for a bit and I'm pretty concerned about job security lol. Should I take the offer or look for something else?

@9pty, there ARE job openings at SPS. They're the ones making masks and other PPE. Won't last forever, but openings exist.

Highly doubt this post. There’s a hiring freeze at the moment and hires require high level approval. Second anyone that starts a convo with Yo is probably not getting a. Offer unless it’s nepotism in which case this post is probably true and daddy’s making you take the job. Good luck to all

You’d be nuts to take an SPS job. They’re gutting everything. Marketing, product development, product support—you name it. Furloughs have come every year for the past four years, and layoffs are like a slow bleed. Management is inexperienced and unfocused, too.

If you work at Honeywell you will always worry about job security. There is a lot of pressure put on you and you are never rewarded.

take it. Same as any company that leads meetings with the stock price. Smaller company would be preferable. Too large a push to move to high growth regions with out checking f thy have the skills or can legally do the work. A lot of defense money is leaving the country this way.

Don't take the job. Everything "bad" that has been said isn't "bad." It's the hard truth. You will always be worried if you'll still have a job on a DAILY basis. There are all sorts of systems in place for you to "further your career" and to "submit goals" or "areas of interest." You won't further your career because you will be discouraged from ever touching lean 6 sigma, the goals are written for you, and they'll scoff at your areas of interest. Seriously. The mid year reviews and annual reviews are an absolute joke. They make it sound like a good time to ask questions about how to achieve your goals and go over your accomplishments, but that is just something they just put out there like a carrot on a stick. Take everyone's advice and run the hell away from Honeyh*ll.

Run away fast

The day I got my first job (Honeywell) as a 28 year old who finished grad school was one of the best days of my life. The day they canned me was without a doubt the best day of my life. I am at a new company and the differences are absolutely remarkable. I am just so damn lucky they got rid of me. How unfortunate it would have been to wake up 55 years old, have type 2 diabetuss, and a wife that won’t even glance my direction when in my birthday suit AND have to go to work in a building that was used as a breeding ground for 20 somethings who are now the aforementioned 55 year olds with diabetuss, and wife that won’t glance. Run away my friend. Or, take the job, do nothing, and wait for that inevitable meeting with a Karen from HR and a worthless director who makes about 180k more than they are worth. The decision is all yours :)

If you are looking for something stable, look elsewhere. If you don’t live in the greater Charlotte NC area, look elsewhere. If you need health insurance through your employer, look elsewhere. But if you live in the Charlotte NC area, use your spouse’s healthcare, and can handle risk, SPS is currently the darling of HW.

So, 26 people who are familiar with the work environment (subtracting the Aero comment) at SPS have told you to run the h3ll away (add my vote to that) or take the job as a last resort, knowing you'll be dismissed as a human being, have unrealistic deadlines with insufficient resources to meet them, get no skills enhancement training (but lots of little corporate videos to meet government ethics and diversity requirements), no WFH once the Covid threat lifts, puny raises and bonuses that are clawed back after a slow-growth quarter, unpaid furloughs, constant threat of layoffs, healthcare with a crushing deductible that keeps you in line with penalties for being a tad fluffy because you have no time to exercise, no upward career path because all the best Band 3 and 4 jobs have been moved to foreign hubs, and the strong likelihood that your job will also be moved to a hub...

We speak the truth without exaggeration. Good luck making the decision that will work for you.

There is NO upward mobility unless you live in India, Mexico, Puerto Rico, China or Brno. North America, and other non emerging markets are frequently the target of furloughs and layoffs. Middle management is about gone in North America and upper level managers, I.e. senior managers and directors are now trying to cover that role and those of their employees that are now gone due to the layoffs. Also, if you are in the U.S. you apparently are the least protected by government laws to prevent being furloughed at the drop of a hat and laid off. So depending on where you live, the offer may be good or run for the hills and never look back.

Eat beans and rice. Eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to survive but say the F@@k away from Honeywell. They have no plans to invest in you once you hire-on and then they want you to on-board in 1qtr2021 because they are cash poor...but you still need to eat! DO YOU GET!?

It depends on the position. Obviously there are people on this forum for a reason so don’t read in to that toooooo much but yeah. It’s company first at Honeywell. You are either ok with that or not. It also depends on your goals. The attrition is so high that it creates upward mobility. Sad but true. They pay is competitive to a degree. It depends on what is important to you. I heard someone say once, the grass is greener but it still needs to be mowed. Keep that in mind.

You've got to decide what's best for you.
HW though is not an employee focused company so go into it with eyes wide open.
Good luck!

H-PPE was not hit this week.. Another GBE was. If you are talking about PPE, be more specific in the role.

Walpuppy said PPE is fine

Tell them you only accept 75% of their offered pay. If you keep your pay below the -3 sigma industry average and you work OT for free every Saturday and you never acquire skills or desire a promotion... you will be pretty safe for a while.

It’s day labor at best. Only thing is you put in 10-15 hours a day and get paid for 8 hours. It has zero long term future. If you are ok with that and can not find a better job then take it. Just remember you were told ahead of time by those that work at Honeywell. Best of Luck!

Depends on your options. If you have nothing else and need the money sure. If you have other options Honeywell should be your last choice.

They just let go of 150 people and would do it again. Others left voluntarily. Take it for the short term but don’t stay long. Keep looking.

It is OK to take the job, but be aware it will be a pressure cooker. The facility will be running at close to 100% capacity to make good on the army contract, with little or no margin if any of the machines go down. Don't stop looking for other work.

Take it for paycheck, always keep looking and don't worry about leaving too soon. In the group I work in we had 2 people hired from outside (last year) and both left for better jobs within 6 months. Very quickly they realized what a joke it was. Thrown into the middle of messes that weren't getting done, no explanation, no training, given rediculous metrics, and pushed by clueless boss to make it happen.

There is no such thing as job security at HWL, and if you take this job you are likely to be so frustrated and miserable that you won't be heartbroken when you're cut.

If you have another offer, advise you to take that. Don't get blinded by Honeywell sweet talkings, you will regret your decision in years to come. Because you have wasted the best if your years working for a company who don't value its employees.

I would advise against it unless you are desperate. There is no job security. If you do accept, make sure every thing is in writing. The work environment can be very toxic.

The job you were offered was likely recently held by a 20+ year dedicated employee who has just been let go. If the company thinks so poorly about a life-long dedicated employee, how much regard do you suspect they will hold you in?

Look elsewhere, for your security, sanity, and financial well-being.
