Do you want to know how messed up bp is???? The entire company is reorganizing from top to bottom and every job is being reviewed, but NO ONE is allowed to apply for a job. Leadership is going to place people in new roles. And they refuse to say what jobs are available or the criteria to be considered. The only people who know they have a future with BP is Bernard, his leadership team and the head of each business, which is probably less than 100 people. Most people will not know their fate until the end of this year. This is creating a horrible culture - low productivity, no trust, a lot of manipulation, backstabbing. This terrible experience will affect bp’s culture for years to come.

No transparency. What do you expect from bp? Everything bp has ever done either stinks or is stained...murky waters.
i was there 22 yrs, went through abt 15 downsizings / reorgs, given multiple severance packages, only used 2! ive been out more than a year with another company and couldn't be happier!!! all the bad stuff said here is true and it feels so wonderful to be out of there!!! leave for a better company as soon as you can and make it a memory you can look back on and say "im glad im not there anymore!". it feels so good!! good luck to those who want to leave, there's more to life than bp or any company that doesn't care about people.
People I am stoked! I am getting out while the EOI package is good! They have been a great company to work for ...39 years and they are paying me a GREAT severance to leave! Been a great ride!
Everyone complaining about the role out ....there really isn't any other way to do it fairly. The Management that is left in Tier 3 (quite a few in this Tier took the package too) had to be decision-ed first and they will now pick their staff from the pool of people left after the EOI is done...! just the way it is ....being bitter won't help you! Cheers!

Any guesses about how Pipeline will fit in to this new order? Just part of this new One Operations group? What will happen to all the HSE folks? All the Right of Way folks? The Traders? Accountants? Same questions about BPX? Will BPX even still be a separate company or will everything be combined? If that’s the case then easy to see how “They” might think so many of us are redundant.
So sorry.....but leaving employees in suspense is VERY typical for the oil business. But I will say that this approach is unusual even for those of us who have been in the business for a long time. Mostly though because the top “says” they will be taking out several from the top. Usually they just annihilate the worker bees....especially those who speak their minds and are NOT “suitably compliant”. Love that terminology bc it’s spot on.
Leaving all 70,000 people in suspense for 9 months to know if they will be employed is not normal at any other company. Normal companies figure sh– out first, then announce to employees they are changing and explain who is in what role and who is leaving. For any other company, the bp process would be considered a—backward. But I guess this is normal for bp? But that is another indication that bp is poorly run.
That’s how an restructuring organization works. Leaders can pick their own teams. Why waste time going through interview? Interview would be a subjective process too.
It’s hard to swallow, but you are the last to know because it’s not important that you do.
Until you become a necessary resource, a name in a box, you’re irrelevant. You will be relevant while you are necessary and suitably compliant.
To believe anything other, at anytime actually, is a failing borne of being a human being within a corporation like BP. Real humans just don’t belong, that’s why unfeeling people are successful at BP.
Of course the real humans get to be successful at life, so there’s the real win. 🙏
bp has a lot to gain from getting their “stuff” together before announcing a major top-to-bottom reorg. They announced this prematurely because Bernard wanted to make a big splash as the new CEO. Now the company is suffering because of it. I know people who have already found jobs with other companies and left. These are good people - not the ones we want to leave. Literally everyone I know is looking for a job outside of bp. They’ll leave as soon as the right opportunity comes along. Even if they get a job at bp, they’ve already started the process. It’s just a matter of time.
As much as I want to hate on the transparency, there's no value for them to release anything early. What if you find out your department is going to be combined? Gotten rid of? Your manager doesn't exist?
While motivation is at an all time low, maybe ignore is bliss. I'll keep my head down and try to be as excited as the people who know they have roles in the new org.
100% agree on the lack of transparency. Everyone is just guessing even the line managers don't know.
A lot of folks in the initial months were trying to prove they were working really hard just in hopes of promoting themselves. Now there seems to be an air of resignation amongst the staff!
Why are you surprised? The sleezier the better. That has always been it’s culture.
I agree with you. I don't miss it. But I can tell you from all of the years I was with them, this issue became common everytime they reorganized. The productivity came to nearly zero. You see the stress in everyone's faces. My way to cope with it is to bury myself in what I was doing and keep the door shut. Everyone gets together to share rumors and speculations. I feel badly for the ones who have to deal with this. When the headcount reduction is that low, and the secrecy of what this company will look like, I'm convince it's much worst than any of the times I've been through it. Truly, if you're ready to leave, I would fine some way to let them know you're interested. If they retain, fine, then you work until the next severance package comes out. That was what we did. You live from package to package, and you strike when it is optimum.
You forgot to mention that 25% of people will be let go. That’s a huge number and much worse with the lack of transparency. Your fate is totally up to the subjective judgement of people who probably don’t know you well.
