We just got an email to everyone under Customer Excellence that specifically mentioned spans and layers. The seven to one ratio was specifically mentioned. The message had a vague timeline for completion: second half of 2020 and into 2021.

A manager will have to have at least 7 direct reports if not managers will become individual contributors and if there are too many with no skills but management I wouldn't want to be them...
Did the email say if they will just reorganize teams or making manager with less than 7 individual contributors?
That’s kinda sad.
I mean the most senior people should be able to put names on an org chart in a days work or less, and they knew this was coming. Maybe this group is under going a bigger change than just eliminating manager roles.
