What is happening with Cafe managers and existing leads like Kids and Cafe? Also, would all employees have to work in different stores or is that only a management thing. Thanks in advance for any info and your time 😊

I doubt anything will change at the Barnes I work at. The managers are all cliqued up, we can’t even get them transferred to another Barnes without them being bounced back, fricken Teflon. I think my location has three Asm and like 11 managers no lie. Some have been here forever.

Are the Demoted merch Mgrs being paid less ?

Merch managers are now leads/key holders.
If you’re store has two ASMS, say bye to one of them.
The new cluster, area system seems completely confusing, not streamlined.
But hopefully we will get a presentation of how it’s done, instead of random sheets of paper posted by the schedule board.

So what happened to all the sales Inventory Mgrs & everyone below an ASM ?

If you hate the company so, much, Greg, why are you still there?
The company doesn’t care about me ( or any other employee) and I don’t care about them.
They’re a paycheck. I do my job. They pay me.

Turns out OP is 100% correct. They are "flattening" the field. All positions beneath ASM to be eliminated for specialists, which is just a fancy way of saying part timers with increased responsibility. Store "clusters" so now you have to work at multiple locations. Sounds like a nightmare.

If you read the new letter from James Daunt in BN inside OP was not wrong.

Don’t tell Paul that ! He thinks if he doesn’t post it, it’s some “disgruntled ex”.

And spare us the, "Just gonna shop at Amazon, Target, Walmart..."
I work at BN but buy most pop figures, DVDS and yes even books at Amazon. Better prices ( even with a discount) and they’re delivered faster than BN can get them.
So, spare us !

“Fortunately, i remain a proud employee of this great company, and have been
for many years.”

Then you must be management. Therefore the misinformation you post is so others don’t know what’s really going on.( haven’t met a mgr yet that tells the truth about what’s happening)
If you been there that long you’re the one in Mommy’s basement because you’re not making enough to live on and Pay health insurance.
You’re disregard for all the good employees fired shows your lack of compassion.( As long as you’re employed , right?!) again, must be management.
And yes I work for the company , part time. Because they won’t make me full time when they can hire more part timers that don’t need health insurance.

No doom & gloom, just being realistic.

If you've perused this place in the last few years, there is a history of
misinformation by supposed "insiders."

These "insiders" are the disgruntled formers, that can't seem to move on,
so they manufacture gossip to entertain themselves, while sitting in the basement.

Fortunately, i remain a proud employee of this great company, and have been
for many years.

Just stop with the "gleeful, you're all gonna get fired and i told you so,"
garbage.
No one except you are saying All Getting fired. Just saying 3 in my store were. And yes according to you we should expect it in these pandemic times . you are the doom and gloom. I’m sticking to facts !

Yeah, keep projecting, and no, i am not in management.

Just stop with the "gleeful, you're all gonna get fired and i told you so,"
garbage.

Some will, some wont, and it's not going to shock anyone in the current
retail, active pandemic landscape.

And spare us the, "Just gonna shop at Amazon, Target, Walmart..."

Shop where you want, but don't pretend these corporations are less
cut throat than Barnes and Noble.

I don’t know who these 3 fictitious posters, you’ve spent so much time analyzing , are. But I posted about the 3 people laid off this past week. You posted “ nothing happened “. Maybe not in your store. But our store lost these 3. You seem to be upset ( or is it guilt, if you’re in management) over the events of 2018. It’s a new regime now. You seem obsessed with it. So you sit there trying to spin what’s going on. Tell those 3 nothing’s happened and it’s Ex employees with a grudge.

Nothing happened, folks.
Just a shift in roles, with a structure similar to Waterstones.
All of our managers remain, so don't believe the hype.

No one takes this place seriously, because it's like the same three
disgruntled formers, attempting to upset current employees.
The Doomsday predictions have been recycled on here, for three years now.

If i got laid off back in early 2018, i would not be obsessively stalking the
company, three years later.
I'd have moved on, like most sane people would.

If you don't work for B&N, and you dislike the company, why are you still
infatuated with every morsel of manufactured gossip & misinformation?

We lost 2 this week also.
That fool just wants to blame 2 year old, ex employees, for info that HE is not aware of.
He has no compassion for anyone . Just wants to call people mental when he’s the one incapable of acknowledging lay offs are actually taking place. Just not on a huge noticeable level. When it happens in his store ( or to him) maybe he’ll believe it.

The lying to spread worry and anxiety is incrdible on this thread. It's been almost 2 weeks and there weer no layoffs last week as 'predicted' by the miserable Chicke Little on this thread who keeps ruunning around clucking his SKY IS FALLING warning. Stay off this site and see a therapist. You were laid off ove 2 years. ago and you still lurk around the past.

Maybe your store was spared .
We lost 3 people last week.
You’re as bad as Chicken Little. Acting like YOU know everything. I KNOW OF OTHER STORES IN OUR district that lost people. So how about you shut your hole ,as well , acting like it’s all roses and singing birds out here.

I have no wrath. I am a miserable person, so I like to share my misery with others. Also, no one made these workers apply to work there or stay working there. They are free to quit whenever they choose. That is on them. I wish ill will on everyone, not just BN workers. And about peace, you are living in a fantasy if you think that will ever happen.

I can't say that I have been treated particularly well by barnes and noble, especially during this time period. However, the absolute ugliness of some of these posts is confusing to me. I understand being angry about the 2018 firings, we lost many amazing coworkers! But the company is no longer even under that ownership...as for wishing for bad things to happen to current store employees....it's just mean spirited and rotten. These are people just trying to feed themselves and their families, had nothing to do with the firings and don't deserve your wrath. When you make these statements you are no better than the company you abhor. That being said, I hope that you one day come to terms with your anger and find peace.

I don’t think they do it to makes themselves feel better. I think they do it to put some doubt, in the company, out there.

It's funny that either very disgruntled ex employees or people with no knowledge at all post here. The company is restructuring but not necessarily laying off people. I was on said call and it was more about role changes than firings. I know there will always be internet trolls but the amount of people who love to just say untrue things to obviously make themselves feel better is too funny. More power

BN certainly has a lot of enemies.
You can’t tear employees & customers as badly as they have, for as long as they have and not expect this. Personally, I wouldn’t miss them one bit.

I just want to know when BN is going out of business? They deserve what they dished out over the years. Every employee from top down deserves to be fired with no severance and escorted off the property. Down with BN, may they never reopen and learn their lesson this time. Down with BN! Down with BN!

Yeah Paul - everyone doesn’t know what they’re talking about.
Posters are “posers”.
Those furloughed are.being excluded from a big restructuring conference call. ( they’re not returning!) and other positions are being eliminated.
Maybe you should open your mind and ears to what others are saying ( and unlike you, know what’s coming)

Paul if you were “reamed” a new one it was because you act like you’re the only one who know’s what’s going on. Lots of us on here still work there and know things aren’t good w/ this pandemic and bad sales. We lost an ASM and 2 others this week. Some stores are being made to tighten up payroll and positions. Fake info helps no one. But there are some being let goin some stores.

Clearly you have no inside knowledge because this is completely untrue.

Hey now, I kind of said the same thing last week and got reamed a new one. After all, the poser, uh I mean poster, said they got it from a reliable GOOD FRIEND in corporate. HOW can you possible refute that an unknown person, confirmed it with a nameless entity in an unidentified department in “corporate”…. That is a solid as ice in the Sahara.

Who cares anymore ?!
They keep firing people. Sacrificing customer service until it’s not worth opening the doors & paying the rent anymore. Their online services are horrible compared to other ( better) companies.
So, stay if you want. Get a different job, if you want. Shop there if you want. Shop elsewhere if you don’t want to support them. This mixture of fact & fiction is pointless . Look out for yourself. No one else will. Good luck to you all

Hi, does anyone know anything about Paramus store #2597? I'm still waiting to hear back about work. It's a pretty large store with a cafe. I haven't received any answers that indicate a commitment to bring me back. I've been working for 18+ years.

“ Let's not pretend like customers care about service. ”
and THAT’s your typical BN employee. Customers are a store’s livelihood!
Having contempt for them, like they’re beneath you , come across in your attitude.

Let's not pretend like customers care about service. They want a book that's cheap and new at Amazon's price that they can leaf through before they buy it, preferably at the in store coffee shop where they can maybe read the whole thing without buying, except now they don't want to because it might come with a side of coronavirus. If they want to know more they can check their phone. The only reason that people's stock and inventory jobs haven't been replaced by robots like Amazon is that B&N can't afford it. Libraries switched to automated checkout long ago.
