They are restructuring their management. Manager positions are being eliminated, Sales & Merchandise managers will be eliminated, restructuring and giving responsibilities to lower positions and renaming them. District managers will be gone.

There is no bloodbath.
I have friends at several stores and nothing is happening or happened.
This site has just become rumors and false news.
In fact, we had people coming back that were still furloughed.
So, we added to our staff.
What "bloodbath"? Everyone is still here. Given, thats like five people, but why make things up? It just lowers the credibility of everyone here, including people who might have real insight.
It’s true, they are restructuring From top down, so demoting SMs so old DMs can have the store.
“Bloodbath today”
Winston-
What happened at your store ?
we only lost 2, today !
I just come on here out of habit because I know several people I used to work with at BN , get fired.
The customer service is horrible. In store. Online. On the phone.
You can’t drive people away like that.
This pandemic is testing every retail store. Cutting more hours ( customer service !) will result in lost sales. I’m not saying over staff stores. But have enough to assist people and fast cashiering. But the first thought is how few employees do we absolutely need. Yes, it saves the store payroll but costs sales.
It’s just like two years ago. Going to cut the staff to the bone. Customers won’t get the service they deserve. More customers will go elsewhere. Barnes & Noble loses more customers. And then they all cry about online shopping. How it’s ruiningRetail. Bad customer service ruins retail.
I was wondering where everyone went today. I visited a store and there were literally three employees on the floor. Down with BN.
Bloodbath today
To Paul G,
Different stores have different levels of staff , based on sales, etc. Stores not doing well could very well see a cut in payroll. Calling people names isn’t necessary just because it may not apply to your store. Not everyone on here is a former , ex Bookseller. Some working in the Corporate offices have actually contributed truthful posts on here. Your calling people names because you don’t agree with them or understand will only get these posts deleted.
IMHO when you post something that can disrupt the lives of other, without a solid reliable source then you should expect to take some heat.
Paul- I didn’t post based on rumor. As I said I got it from a reliable GOOD FRIEND in corporate and you jumped all over me calling me a troll and mental. YOU were wrong and I ACCEPT your apology. Good luck to you.
All true.
Happening at our store, too.
Maybe it all depends on the size of your store, as some are
too management heavy (multiple ASM's, etc.)
But it's getting streamlined, and changes are afoot.

TheLayoff.com is a simple discussion board for all of us who would like to learn more about the rumors or possibility of job cuts in our company.

rumor noun
talk or opinion widely disseminated with no discernible source
2 : a statement or report current without known authority for its truth
3 archaic : talk or report of a notable person or event
4 : a soft low indistinct sound : MURMUR
Paul G here,
My bad, I just expected that the individual who posted about the massive restructuring could provide some proof (i.e. website link, Document, etc.) that it was going to occur. After all, some people depend on BN for their livelihood and making stressful statements without providing something being substantiated could be construed as mean and hurtful. Like you enjoy yanking on their chain and getting people worried.

But hey if everyone is satisfied that the information conveyed is in a format like: “my neighbor’s dentist’s second cousins brother in law, heard it from their auto-mechanics ex-wife step daughter’s boyfriend” then go for it.
Oh and for the record I called a friend in corporate finance and he confirmed that the stores payrolls have not been adjusted for 3rd or 4th quarter which would reflect a massive layoff.
Or did I…….?
See how easy that is.
Obviously Paul G ( for gullible) calls people, who know what’s going on, names to either coverup what’s going on ( if he truly knows anything) or out of ignorance.
Restructuring at field level, and all DM's interview for new role (unsure of title). Reduction in overall #'s.
This is actually true.
Our DM just got promoted to Regional, but her DM position
is no more.
Two Merch managers just got all their hours cut in half, too.
So, again, as a current employee, where is this coming from? You called corporate and they told you they're firing people? b—s— you did. Like i said in my post, there are currently NO EMPLOYEES at my store who are not full time. That means managers and the remaining leads. We are a large store with under a dozen staff TOTAL right now. Youre telling me thst staff is about to be cut in half this week? I'm gonna need more evidence, otherwise youre just one of the mental patients who trolls this place regularly.
And you know this how.....? Evidence please.....? Otherwise a troll without a life and a sad excuse for your existence
Dearest Paul G.
It should’ve read I CALLED ( not call) the info I got was from someone who works in the New York office . THATS where I got my info.
You only seem to climb out From under your bridge when you want to not believe what someone says. Or, when you don’t want people to know the truth. You are the one trollIng here ,Mr. corporate.
It does make sense. There is no need for the management structure the new owner inherited as it is not sustainable financially. The business is half of what it was 5 years ago and the direction of the company and what they want to represent has also changed .Those who didn’t see this coming (even before COVID) has had blinders on. Unfortunately with the current state of retail , the options for employment are much less; and most likely will be found only at the big discount chains.
And you know this how.....? Evidence please.....? Otherwise a troll without a life and a sad excuse for your existence.
Just call a contact in corporate.
Would only admit lots of changes coming soon. Didn’t tell me I was wrong when I read this to her.
I hope this is true !
Would love to see Dist Mgrs gone ( cough ,cough, Tennessee!)
Where is this coming from? How does a store NOT have a manager? At my store they are actually asking everyone back that was on furlough slowly. It is a big store, so maybe that is why, but can't understand how they get rid of all the managers. Is this why they are asking people back who were booksellers? To givethem more responsibility at lower pay?
Where are you getting this from? At my store the managers are literally the only people with jobs.
And then we woke up!
