Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Massive Re-Org in Cloud Pre-Sales Engineering

New leadership has come in and today they have shaken everything up. People are getting new roles and new managers. Moving to a more specialized model to better compete with Amazon, Microsoft, and Google. If you are a database guy, you are in the database team. If you are an infrastructure guy, then you are in the infrastructure guy. If you are a devops guy, you are in the devops team. If you are an apps person, then you are on the apps team. Not sure if the sales side is going to be changed at all. I know RG was moved out to focus on the legacy license business.

The only thing sickening about KI is that he essentially fired outright. Had no idea how to enter the field, was only interested in building his own little sales empire inside oci... a sales organization without quotas on the line. Every deal he claimed credit for was closed by the real sales team.

Bonjour. Imagine, if you will, a Corporate desire to remove 21.25 million from payroll. If you first. had a major disappointment on bonus, followed by a total re org; pulling everyone from their friends. Jarring them from their accustomed manager, removing them from the security of their comfort zone. You might just hit your target within 4 month!

KI was so much better than VK. IT sickens me every day that goes by that KI is still at Oracle and they dont bring him back to fix this mess.

Before VK, there was KI who did have a good vision on how to fix things, but was kicked out and VK was given the role. VK is a geek who never achieved anything, his claim to fame is that he is trusted by the AWS mafia. He knows diddly squat about sales, has zero negative credibility and doesn't even know have basic conversational and presentation skills. He'll be out in six months or less.

How many us us will still be here in those 12 months?

I give VK 12 months or less before he is booted out. He has never done anything valuable, just taken credit for a few deals that were closed by the field. Punting him over to sales was a way to get rid of him. The field will eat him alive and the sales reps his team is supposed to support will be demanding his head from MH.

With the reorg completed, they have reviewed everybody. They may grouped you into a new manager, but they may have paper clipped your file. Stay tuned!

So, going back to the specialization model last employed by Block? The one that made the company successful? The people poking fun at the ‘bus’ are the problem. They always have been. They got their shot, now look where Oracle is. How is SalesForce doing? Tech, dB, apps specially is what it takes to win. You only take along the groups needed to win. You hire the best of the best, no matter their age, gender or color. The best is the bias you go for, drop all the other nonsense, and the reliance on low cost solutions. They get low success rates. In life, you get what you pay for. Salaries over hourlies...

Now that HD is running Enterprise Arch and Customer Engineering @ Google, I wonder if he will bring his hub model there?

The hub model was a joke really. MH wanted it. The premise was to be able to minimize / eliminate expensive field positions. and replace those expensive resources with low cost hubsters.

What will happen to the Austin Campus they invested so much in? Maybe they should put it up for sale.

"SEs no longer dedicated to individual reps, but back in “pooled” team and assigned to deals as they hit the pipe."

Working with reps was one of the few humanizing aspects of the job, even over zoom.

Yes, but are sales engineers still required to spend 3 hours filling out sales cloud reports for every hour spent on a deal? That’s the sort of efficiency that always made this sales org stand out.

“Class-of” hub model now officially blown up and dead. RIP. Don’t know the #s but lots more hub SEs RIFed. The remaining hub personnel are now actual (non hub) tech sales specialists, and no longer reporting to hub managers.

Also - SEs no longer dedicated to individual reps, but back in “pooled” team and assigned to deals as they hit the pipe.

ECAs are no longer ECAs. They will now get a specialized role based on fit. This makes a lot more sense. Asking someone to cover the whole stack from a technical standpoint was preposterous.

Thanks for reply. Your right I meant ECA. Your confirmation of going back to the old model is what I expected. Makes perfect sense. Now we load up the Oracle Little Bus and bring five SC’s to each customer meeting or more like Zoom Con-call. Do you get Pillar Sales Reps and TSM’s as well? Have fun!

New leader gets new org. That’s the max they could do. The structure is more pillar focused, which was the case years backBack to Square 1.

“Finally k–ling off the last of the OCA’s?”

Did you mean the “ECA’s” (enterprise cloud architects), or is OCA yet another cloud pre sales role?

And agreed that this just sounds like the same-old. Incredible how each organizational “bet” that is made fails, then several re-orgs later it all just comes full circle. I mean this sounds exactly like what was already in place about 4 years ago????

Fun times.

No offense. But doesn’t seem like much of a change. More like deck chair arranging. Are they getting rid of the Cloud Solution Hubs? Finally k–ling off the last of the OCA’s? Cloud Success Managers? Thanks.
