I got my notice Tuesday while I was seated in the bath room stall when I overheard members of the management team talking about the people who were going to be notified and I heard my name.
I guess it was better than having it written down on the toilet cover sheets or the paper.
In a bit of humor I thought oh "sh&t" and remembered I had already completed that checklist item.
I got let go in mid July.
Before that, back in mid-late June (due to WARN), my engineering director messaged me on Skype well before I was going to wake up. I happened to check my phone around the same time he messaged me.
His Skype message basically said, “Can we talk?” and that’s when I knew this is when the axe would fall.
Messaged him back and he called me. He asked me if everything was okay with me and I basically said, “I think I know why you’re calling me.” And my suspicion was correct.
Moral of the story, you’ll likely know about in three weeks in advance before they give you an official termination notice in a couple of weeks. Though, I have heard of those who got an immediate notice of their termination and didn’t get their WARN.
Mine was handwritten in pink lipstick and stuffed in my keyboard.
You will have an invitation from your manager for a 1:1 meeting where the news will be shared. This will be followed by official documents spelling out the details.
My manager sent me a postcard of a beach scene, on the back she wrote, “Enjoy your time off!”
