I bet hardly any of the management on up give a s–t about people in need and the underprivileged. Their promotion of UW is all show. Also UW itself is likely near as corrupt an organization as Enbridge. They both deserve each other.
I heard donating less than $20 actually cost UW more to process, so donate less than $20 to shut them up.
UW is a scam of the century. It's existence is to do good for their paid staff through exploiting everyone else. I hate the idea of giving my hard earned money to their staff who makes more but work less than me (more generous paid leaves, summer hours and vacations)
Was Union Gas truly any better than enbridge? 5 year employer with UG and never bought the hype about how they were oh so saintly.
Pity the peasants who donate to United Way (when they could just donate directly to their preferred charity), so that the bosses can attend fancy parties and photo ops on their dime.
I haven’t done a UW payroll contribution in years. I was on one of the organizing committees about 10 years ago at Union Gas and seeing how the sausage was made was a complete turn-off. I suspect they can’t get away with this anymore, but back then, who donated what wasn’t kept confidential at all and if you didn’t donate or didn’t donate enough, your VP would know about it. Senior leaders get to go to special dinners and events put on by the UW using our donations...photo ops etc... it makes them feel special and strokes their egos. This is what the United Way campaigns are really about. I do donate generously to a cause I believe in, but I just ignore the workplace UW stuff now and delete it as soon as it hits my inbox.
As for directing funds to the United Way charity, you can pick a specific charity. However if one charity is oversubscribed the UWay will "reallocate" the monies to another charity that has been under subscribed. Did you know that?
You know, you can direct the funds to a charity of your choosing. Maybe actually read the form.
The CK United Way "invested" $1,565,140.00 but had $512,323 in "fundraising" expenses. Before donating to the UW, figure out how much further your donation will go if UWay did not take fifteen per cent off the top.
You may want to consider giving "directly" instead of through a middleman.
Food for thought.
UW does some good work, however Enbridge is just using them on the backs of its employees to enhance their reputation. I won’t have any part of that.
If asked by UW I would tell them to distance themselves from Enbridge because in my eyes having anything to do with Enbridge is a bad reflection on them.
Glad to see the Public Communication person/hack is back making cheery comments and telling us not to look behind the curtain.
To satisfy both my dislike for UW yet met the assigned team goal for points I always do e everything for team points including the "YES with-hold from check" a one time contribution of $12.
I do give 10% to a charity with minimal overhead of 2%. UW professionals corp and local make good money!
who said hate other than you, nobody has to hate enbridge, have some more cool aid
There are a lot of things wrong at Enbridge that can be an issue, but I think your hate is getting the best of you here. This isn’t one of the things that is an issue - you get to personally choose to donate to any charity you want to and Enbridge matches your donation to United Way. Don’t let your hate for Enbridge get in the way of helping others.
I suggest we all donate outside of enbridge, unless they match it.
I too am grateful to still be employed, but when the company says they need to cut back wages because their profits are not as high as they told there shareholders that's what I have issues with.
Im grateful to still have a job. A 3% lower salary kinda stung at first, but in the grand scheme of things it is still well above the US/CDN median income. I give to charities what I can/want, and feel zero pressure from management to do so.
When a charity contribution feels compulsory and forced it feels less like a donation. I've always hated the united way campaigns. Dislike the UW chairs even more.
I've always thought United Way was such a scam. Too much corporate pressures and managers going down your throat for money. I have no respect for those a– kissing UW campaign managers either.
