Macy’s Open on Thanksgiving

Well, we just Had our ’Stores Organization Holiday 2020 Meeting’. There was no mention of whether or not we’ll be open. If we were going to be closed on Thanksgiving, that was the last possible moment to announce it.

The ironic thing is the entire webcast they preached “Health and Safety” and said phrases like to protect our “Colleagues and Customers.”

Stores are closed to customers only. There will be BOPS and curbside. So technically we are not “closed”.

I'm a Store Manager and the only survey was the pulse survey every colleague was asked to take.
I never received a survey about Thanksgiving,

Store managers were given a survey due Friday. They could decline to open due to financial hardship but had to submit a financial plan of how they would make up the sales volume of Thursday during the season. Nobody is doing that it or being “that store manager”

I do not believe it will be voluntary to work from what is known you will be scheduled by msp to work like any other day or week.

I’m sure half my store, if not all, would call in. Then what?

They are really pushing all store line colleagues to a breaKing point.

You're delusional if you think people won't still come out in masses for Black Friday.

Choosing to work or not on Thanksgiving day if open is not a matter of being the fault of the store manager. That’s ridiculous! It’s a matter of public health and safety. They could not pay me enough to work on Thanksgiving Day and depending on the circumstances in my location I might decline Black Friday too. Nothing is more important than health and family. After 29 years as a loyal and dedicated Macy’s employee my priorities are set. Recovering a table of sweaters is pretty rock bottom on the list.

Staffing will be horrible if we open. Why would anyone volunteer. I would consider it for triple time and holiday pay. The sad part is if no one wants to work it will be blamed on the store managers as an engagement issue. My store Mgr is one of the best people I’ve worked for in my 30yr career. It’s a company leadership (ceo) issue not a store engagement issue

I’m a store manager and was not given a survey. They will just say they asked us but they didn’t. They’ll put the blame on us not themselves

Uh yeah.... no. An announcement will be made witjin this coming week or next. There will be no, I repeat, NO DOORBUSTERS. Just all day specials that will run through Sunday. Black Ftiday Sale will start Tuesday. As far as being open, Store Managers were given a survey that they needed to submit by end of day Friday. With most retailers closed, Macys wouldn't want that negative image of being open, sooo who knows.

Macy’s will be open Thanksgiving Day with a skeleton crew. 5pm - 2am

Black Friday Specials and Doorbusters start Tuesday, All day specials & doorbusters available online Tues - Sat. Projection is that very few customers will be in stores that Thanksgiving Day

Action News in Philadelphia announced on Thursday September 10 that Macy’s along with other retailers are closed on Thanksgiving Day. I am not sure where they got that info but they said it plan as day and it was on their website too.

Most stores open 11-9 Monday-Saturday

No mention of thanksgiving hours yet. My boss is pretty positive we’ll be open. The company can’t figure out how to make up the sales. And they feel since our team was furloughed so they didn’t work as hard as essential retailers so their time with families matters less. Regardless If we are open or closed there will be fulfillment shifts on thanksgiving

Other retailers are starting sales in October and early November. We won’t start Black Friday sales until the Tuesday before. The other retailers have it figured out.
