Thread regarding Bed Bath & Beyond layoffs

Good or bad, you tell me

I was a KH and ran into my former SM and he looked as if he was put through the ringer. He said he hasn’t had a moment of peace since the layoffs. IMO corporate obviously wasn’t thinking clearly in letting go of experienced key personnel only to turn around and do call backs. I don’t know which is worse, being let go or being asked to return after having gone through such emotional turmoil.

If you get laid off from a company and they call you back to work for less pay. You deserve the c-appy situation you are returning to! You all should have looked for work as soon as you first visited this website and seen all the writing on the wall. Shame on you. Terrible company to work for that has the c-appiest business model Ive ever seen. Take high end DM and put him in a store to assist customers” that’s where the company makes their money” watch him c-ap his pants. But no let him have no knowledge about product and put him in a DM position and pay him over 100,000 just because he’s been with the company a long time.

It is a very simple concept..you go to work to work. I have found that usually people who say they busted their butts usually did not. Just saying.

Don't go lecturing me about how hard I worked for Bloodbath. The DMs recognized this and boosted my pay long ago to hang on to me. I have paid my dues with this company above and beyond and save your "supposed to be at work" sh– for someone else. Hell, I covered for people who were supposed to be "working" but stood all day in front of rugs and meditated.

On the day I was laid off I asked my manager if I could work PT until I found another job. He said I had to wait 2 weeks, and I could re-apply. I was called by the OPS manager last Friday, asking me if I wanted to come back, and returned to work yesterday. I was a FT CST. I was told that if wanted to come back I could work no more than 25 hours per week, and had to take a $1.60/hr paycut. I was also told that I did not have not payback my severance. I thought they called me because I had ASKED about working PT. Finding out that corporate is actually calling people back makes me a little sick, and I feel like I got s—er punched.

I'll second the d–k move part as I think that was the whole idea all along. But it sure was one hell of a stupid way to do it. Worse than the handling of COVID in the US.

They are calling people back because it is a d*ck move, par for the course with this company. Basically letting you see how it may be difficult to get a new job now (which it is not) and then offering you to go back for less pay and more hours and see if you bite. It's a win/win for them. BBB has always been terrible to their associates, it's a culture that won't change until the bow of the ship is firmly under water.

I asked for in writing that they not ask for the severance back if i returned prior to the end of the severance period. Read what you signed. A text message is not good enough for me We will only get 65 to 70% after taxes so how do you come up with that money when you get less hours and possibly less per hour

I know that the FT CST from my old store received a call stating the DM would like to speak with her about returning. She asked my advice on this. I was a 50 hour Ops ASM that took.the severance. I told her to hear them out and if I were her ...... I would only come back with an increase and promotion. They dug their own graves handling this the way they did.

It's true some solid ASMs were let go that shouldn't have been. For the SMs out there appreciate your ASMs and all the hard work they do while you sit in the office milking the clock and for SMs that bust their butt of with the ASMs thank you.

Could also be grounds for wrongful termination.

I wonder if the call back.stories are true. Why would someone be called back within two weeks? If..and a big if..people were being called back.why would it be so soon...as opposed to letting the dust settle. It sounds a bit like it may not be true..
