Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Gold Badge

If you have a gold badge you're on borrowed time.

People who get "too expensive" get "restructured" and backfilled with new hires with dramatically less experience and fewer skills, but who are much cheaper, or their workload gets shifted onto others for a tiny raise (if any).

This is the culture being fostered at the Walmart Home Office.

If you work their, get your training/experience on their dime for a couple years then GTFO before you get an 8am planner on your calendar from HR.

I got kicked out after thirty years. Then when I reapplied I got an email stating they had better talent. I called a friend of mine in HR told me I was disassociated.

@1sum AA was as bad as WM. I was at WM for 10 years. I left on my own seeing the writing on the wall. They started with seniority with the company because you obviously made too much money - 35 years, then 30 and so on down to 15 years (which is when I left). Then ageism was filtered in there. Of course legal had to approve each layoff group so no one could claim discrimination. Then they took associates that had the audacity to use their medical benefits - the 'unhealthy'. WM is self-insured and they were always under water every year.

Finally those that survived started getting bad annual evaluations. These were the associates they needed initially and had stellar reviews all their careers. They probably trained their replacements. This marked you for the next layoff.

After this year of shareholder dividend payouts the only way walmart can top that is to get rid of long term employees over 3 years of service. Expect cuts after christmas.

So, this was how we did this at American Express back in the 90s – two groups sent off to two large conference rooms – one was the execution room – the other, you were spared for the moment. (Like American Idol back in the early days). Rooms were dismissed – and one group were in shock or tears, and the other group couldn't look the first group in the eyes . . . Yes, if you have longevity, there is a big target on your back – because you are too expensive and have outlived your usefulness. You need to jump from this sinking ship before it's too late.

The 8am 'planner' usually comes out in the middle of the night when you're away from your job. When you arrive in the morning at '8am' you open it.

It is an e-mail, usually from HR, that tells you to report to a certain conference room at a certain time with no details why.

It is Walmart's way to tell you you're being termed.
