Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

I appreciate your request for "Kindness & Respect" for people who are losing their jobs. I would like to you to picture: In 2017 there was a ridiculous layoff that saw some very hardworking, loyal people lose their jobs. People who had spent a lifetime loyal to a company. They were stripped of their job and disgracefully walked, by a colleague, through a building of peers not to return.

A lot of those people lost their jobs as a result of a vendetta or some sort of insinuated wrong they had unintentionally committed. Those VP's that are being let go now, where directly responsible for good people being laid off. They did not properly vet reasons and didn't question decisions. Further, they were apart of the humiliation.

So, I don't want to see anybody lose their job in this climate, but sometimes you reap what you sew.

I very much agree with the first post! I’m shocked at comments in these forums and how cruel and negative they are. Many amazing people lost their jobs. While I know this is a hard window, I’m excited to see where they end up and what’s next for them. :)

On a personal level I agree with the kindness and respect angle.

However, when I worked for Nike I saw people that had sick kids/partners and then were subsequently labeled "under performers" because they could no longer work all day and night. Some were lucky enough to get "no show" spots on teams with sympathetic leaders. I went through a similar situation where I experienced 2 unexpected personal tragedies and a divorce in a short amount of time. Despite having 300 hours of PTO i was roasted anytime I needed a day off. My manager actively tried to sabotage me because I missed company events like scavenger hunts :D I wish I was joking...

So, while I do feel sorry for the good folks caught up i this.. I am also drinking tea right now and smiling at those of you who were awful to other people :D

I know that these individuals will be fine. However, many have families and have given the better part of their lives for The Swoosh, and many were let go for no fault of their own. It is still going to sting for awhile.

On top of that we are in the midst of a global pandemic and economic recession, where jobs will not be easy to come by.

@1nnn, you VP and Sr. Director friends, especially those who have been around for 20+ years, will be just fine. With the pay and benefits these people get compounded over 20 years equals to millions of dollars.

This week, I’ve had to say “goodbye” to a number of talented and smart VPs and Sr. Directors who were colleagues, mentors and friends, who spent the majority of their careers (20+ years) at The Swoosh, including stints overseas. Now is the time to show compassion and empathy.

Get real...the culture within the organization is cutthroat, mean, and unprofessional; yet, you are asking people on this forum to be the opposite of that knowing hoe utterly stressed out they are?

To everyone who got laid off.

Cya wouldn't want to be ya. Truth of the matter is that everyone still with a job is glad it isn't them, and everyone will manage and forget about those who are gone lickety split.

I'm not HR or Comms. Just an anxious Nike employee stressed out about what's going to happen to me, my teammates and my Nike friends. Came here looking for some information about what's happening.

@OP, agreed. On the other hand I also understand that people have simply had enough of stress, uncertainty, and lies. I do not believe they just want to be mean...they are just frustrated and may not be thinking to clearly to care about typing something into a forum!

while are we at it, would you please kindly and respectfuly ask the c-level line up to be transparent and tell us what they are planning to do with us (enough games please)

Yeah, I agree with HR for once
