Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

When will Verizon reach nationwide 5G coverage? Looks like AT&T is the leader in the clubhouse.

In his latest shareholder update, AT&T (NYSE:T) Chief Financial Officer John Stephens says the company expects to reach nationwide 5G coverage this summer.

Speaking at the Credit Suisse Communications Conference, Stephens said the 5G network covered 120M at the end of Q1, and covers more than 160M people in 327 markets today.

They layed everyone off that could make that happen in 2018. I had toosed dozens of them up and there’s nothing since. Simply put, and sounds boostful, but they can’t do what we did. 3 years later they may start to figure it out but I doubt it.

@2seg, my good man, would you please link these "surveys" that you're using as "evidence" and a means of bolstering your point of view.

The only people who care about 5g are people that work in the wireless industry. The rest of the world could care less. 4g was transformative, 5g is smoke and mirrors.

AT&T lights up nationwide 5G service.

Alongside its Q2 earnings, AT&T (NYSE:T) has turned on its 5G network nationwide.

"Our strategy of deploying 5G in both sub-6 (5G) and mmWave (5G+) spectrum bands will provide the best mix of speeds, latency and coverage that are needed to enable revolutionary new capabilities to fuel 5G experiences for consumers and businesses," says AT&T's Chris Sambar. "Our competitors are still working to provide that same mix, which for them could take months or even years."

Starting Aug. 7, the company is adding 5G access to its Unlimited Starter wireless plan for consumers, starting at $35/month for four lines (meaning 5G access will come at no additional cost for customers on Unlimited Starter, Extra and Elite plans). And that day it's adding 5G access to Business Unlimited Web-Only and Starter plans.

I engineer OSP and small cells for AT&T and Verizon. AT&T is completely walking away from Verizon in term of miles of dark fiber and number of small cells. Verizon Is Verizon’s biggest problem... always has been.

Seeking Alpha: AT&T (T +1.2%) is turning on its 5G network in 28 new markets, including Miami, Dallas, Austin, and Salt Lake City.

It's also started dynamic spectrum sharing in parts of some of its markets.

The new launch brings access to 5G to parts of 355 U.S. markets for AT&T.

The DSS technology allows carriers to share the same channel between 4G and 5G users simultaneously, based on demand, which should mean faster and more efficient deployment and "an important stepping stone on our path to nationwide 5G," says AT&T's Igal Elbaz.

Same amount of time it took to wire FIOS throughout the whole Verizon area. Oh. Wait.

Yep... 5g is a wireless product that will reduce (and in some cases) eliminate their reliance on the union. It eliminates all the copper and FiOS to the premise. When they can show a reduced workload, they can reduce the workforce.
The last strike showed that the union workers are no better than contractors/vendors from a performance standpoint. Surveys showed an overwhelming anti union sentiment among the public. It's time for Verizon to move on. And, 5g is their ticket out.

For Verizon, is the real payoff and revolution for 5G in broadband, not wireless?

  1. 999999% of consumers don't even know what 5g is and could care less. The whole thing is a spin by carriers to generate revenue and growth.

A month ago, AT&T announced they were dropping misleading ‘5G’ marketing for non-5G networks. So is John Stephens comments true?
