Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

CWA SE CareerPath is at it again!

Every surplus season, there are absolutely no jobs on the website. Yet on external T websites jobs are everywhere. It’s crazy! How many will take the offer??

I'm so gone. I just hope I get accepted before the headcount runs out. My boss already said I could not not apply because nobody else works. They can all KMA!

If you have 20 years or more in the Company and you’ve been in Management for at least 5 years, you’ve got to be worn down by the nonsense. It’s bad enough trying to keep your direct reports up to date on their coverages yet you have to keep your team motivated to hit the monthly metrics. The whole time working under a vailed threat of downsizing every year. It wears on you. You become numb to all the rumored surpluses. Last year I was tapped after 22 years as a Field Supervisor. There wasn’t a $50k incentive offered, just the severance and unemployment. The bad news was actually a relief. No more jumping through hoops. No more battling my techs (good guys) because they were unhappy with the Company. No more treats by the 2nd & 3rd lines, the biases and favoritisms. If you don’t have a lot of years in the Company, $50k is a great offer. But I don’t think you get a severance which if you are approaching 40 years is about the same amount and with UI it’s actually more. The ship is sinking and with the company’s MO of surpluses every year, it’s a good move to bounce and leave. I felt great from day one away from the company.
