Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

At least we'll know

Frankly, all the waiting is worse than finally finding out if I'm on the list or not. It'll never be clear to me why they would say layoffs are coming and then just let us sit and wait and stress unnecessarily over when and who will be affected. If I'm on the list it'll be a shock at first, but then I can move on. But just constantly waiting and worrying...

@qka same here. We have lived under the “what if” umbrella so long due to these layoff cycles. We finally said screw it a few months ago and started to live life. We will go with the punches as they show up. My spouse can’t hide it from me. I tend to research everything and know the contract dates and info. Sometimes I share info that my spouse wasn’t aware of. Best of luck to you and your family. Know that everything will be okay no matter how the cards fall.

My husband tries to not let me know when another round comes about because it bothers me so much. He is our main income and we have waited to do things in the past because we were waiting to find out if he would still have a job. We decided to stop waiting and live our lives like it just doesn't matter, when in the back of my mind the question is always there. Luckily my husband is still young and can probably find another job without any issues. I feel terrible for the 50-60 somethings out there facing the same thing. It's very hard to get back in the job market at that age. My Mother-in-law had to do it and she is still struggling. And AT&T laid her off about a decade ago.

Think about it - it is all about coming up with a a plan and executing it. This company has shown repeatedly that no matter what it is - an attempt to purchase T-Mobile, Collaborative workspaces, DTV purchase, Warner Media purchase, WF2020 ( need I continue) they do not have the right leaders in place to execute on any initiative.

They keep us waiting because they can't make up their mind. Every level of management is trying to justify THEIR OWN existence so are desperately pleading for their jobs too. It's like 40 blind managers in a completely dark room on a sinking ship trying to find a door to safety, each one knocking aside the others in their panicked brains.

Hard to watch a company pay tens of millions to actors for movie roles and layoff working people. Hope you all stay safe. Good luck to you.

Unfortunately we will not know today. Some union may hear but the majority of employees will not.

The leadership there is sadistic and lacks any and all empathy. They could care less if people and their families are kept up nights not knowing. It’s disgusting

The waiting and worrying is not just for the ones that hold positions at AT&T, but for their families as well. My husband just passed his 21st anniversary with the company - he is a brilliant engineer with a mind that works in a way that cannot be explained. He is very honest with me about everything and when this latest round of possible loss of income was announced, he made sure that I knew. His hard earned living with the company has given us a very nice life together.
The fact that it could be going away in a few days has my anxiety disorder out of control. I make a decent wage at my job but his income has always been our main factor of achieving our financial goals. He seems quite disconnected from all of this threat of loss but I believe that is just to protect me. If he loses his position, we have our Plan B to begin to transition to the change but it will cost us tens of thousands of dollars to make it happen in a sustainable way. We are both cancer survivors and the thought of the loss of health insurance with Medicare so far away is a very hard to face reality.
We've been very fortunate in many ways, many of which are tied to his work and earnings at AT&T. I know that there are many that will be impacted that haven't had the time or circumstances to get to where they have a viable Plan B and my heart goes out to all of you.
Waiting for Monday with baited breath.
I send sincere wishes of hope to all waiting and all affected.

It’s true the waiting is the worst part. It doesn’t matter how many times I’ve been through this, it doesn’t get any easier.
