I left IBM last summer on my own for a new job at a HealthCare payer. I was eligible to retire from IBM. I was offered a retirement celebration but I opted for the Blue Points. Never received them.
I sold my soul to IBM and all I got was this lousy tee shirt.

When I left Big Blew, I collected as many company shirts as I could to use as rags. I certainly would not want to be seen in public wearing one!
Best thing I found for the 2K points was $400 in gift cards. Other things were way overpriced.
And the Bluepoints are an option instead of a retirement celebration which was never offered by management. Like you, I found the Bluepoint option on my own. Management, even first line, just doesn't care.

But, I do agree - if they are giving out free points, why not. I'm sure I can find something there.
