There is indeed a lack of understanding or willingness to understand... It's not like you think, though.
5g to the home will require wireline, but a LOT less of it. That will reduce the number of techs we need to work on it. The final product will be wireless, so NO union reps to answer calls required.
5g will be deployed as soon as the cost is offset by the money saved by the union members sent home. The actual speed is irrelevant as long as it's at least equal to 4g. The only performance issue that's relevant is penetration into the environment. And, the only reason that's an issue is the cost of the number of antennas required to service an area.
As more and more customers migrate (or, are migrated) to 5g, you'll see more and more unemployed union members.
It's a major step in getting the union knee off Verizon's neck.
5G still needs wireline to exist. Why do people think Wireless is all wireless?? You still need transport. The Northeast Wireline is still a viable transport business. Verizon landline is still better than all the other alternative options in the Northeast. Wireline is not going anywhere. And the frequencies that 5G uses for 1gig is in the 28ghz plus range. This type of frequency does not propagate far at all and does not penetrate buildings. You have to be literally on top of a 5G antenna to get the speeds 5G is advertising.

If wireline gets sold, you will not get a discount on 5g home. Copper plant still exists in 3rd world countries so you won't have a problem with bagging a job. Good luck with that.

5G deployment is going to result in a massive sell off of all wireline assets. After that strike in 2016 the die was cast. Get training outside the wireline side or fade away like the tech you support.
